Duke had more offensive rebounds than Cal had defensive rebounds:
  • Cal Defensive Rebounds: 20
  • Duke Offensive Rebounds: 23!

When is the last time that ever happened?

Another interesting stat, same night, different court: Cal's women held their opponent SDSU to just 5 assists in a 74-48 beatdown.

Another interesting stat - I don't give a crap about women's basketball beating down some undertalented opponent.

I don't feel particularly comfortable in saying this, but.........Wednesday night.

Illinois 22 Orebs The Citadel 15 Drebs

It's not all that uncommon this early in the season.

Actually, I may be wrong. The stats haven't been updated for last (Thursday) night.

Shouldn't we call that a Beardown?
Or is that more what happened to the men vs. Duke?

So, are you suggesting that in the early season parade of mismatches we are on par with The Citadel??

LOL, okay, but I meant to Cal. I'm guessing it is a daily occurrence in CYO leagues all over the country.

I thought the Women's Basketball Board was where Bears that were former Spec Ops contracted wet work via coded posts.

MY BAD. MY BAD.MY BAD.
Well, now that you're being specific......

Last year we were 351st the Defensive Rebounding . To make up for my errant behavior, I'd go through every game, but.....I'd argue that would be cruel and unusual punishment.

Here's another interesting stat that I hadn't picked up on until a Duke friend just mentioned it. We held Duke to 5 transition points which is pretty remarkable. Apparently, it's the lowest for Duke in a very long time. Clearly, that's by design and I've heard Fox lecture on this to other coaches at Coaches clinics. A big part of that obviously is not crashing the offensive boards which is why we're in the 250+ range already and will likely stay there. Regardless, holding a team that like to break to five points is pretty impressive.

Not much in the way of good news to take out from the Duke game, but at least transition defense was good. That hasn't been the case in recent years.

I'm sure you must be right, but visually, it sure looked like Duke was fast breaking often. One of their baskets came on a play that the TV feed showed over and over, with the Duke big running right up the middle of the floor, with no one stopping him, to get a pass at the other end and score easily. There were other plays where Duke got down the floor and just missed the shot. It looks like we get down the floor fast enough, but sometimes we are a little slow to figure out which man to guard.

Transition defense was decent. They really never got 2-1/3-1 run outs. We lack the size and strength, however, to stop their big from running down the court and bullying his way into the low block. I don't think that was cause we were SLOW....just that when you give up 30 pounds and 4 inches it is kinda hard to move him.

Now think of Zion had been playing ;-)
