Wow. Some questionable calls there. Bradly clearly drew contact on the play he got the kid in the nuts and no call. Now a create contact "and one" for them. OK ....time to get my work done before holiday.

It is clear with these two games is that Cal is not close in athletic ability, Along with so many young guys I see this like the Warriors. Can they develop young inexperienced players over the next couple of years along with some real athletic recruits to become a real threat.

It is almost humerous to watch us play reasonably fundamental basketball only to watch it all blow up cause we are SOOOOOOOO unathletic. Lars getting stuffed when he jumped an inch off the ground was classic.

Gee. Maybe you think we should hire WJ back. I mean he did win 2 P12 games last year...

Sorry, but I don't share the doom and gloom of this forum. Did anyone seriously believe we were likely to come out of Manhattan with a win? Because we looked poor against #1 Duke and lost to #22 Texas, should not be a surprise. Keep in mind we played them even in the 1st half and were within striking distance for much of the 2nd half. This team is a work in progress. Defense was decent against Texas; offense was clearly subpar, but shooting 1-8 from 3 has to be an anomaly. We aren't going to win the P12 championship; we're highly unlikely to manage 9-9 in the P12, but I wouldn't be surprised if we were .500 overall and win 6-8 P12 games. As SCT points out, we're playing fundamental basketball; we just lack the athletes to move to the next stage. Let's let the season play out before declaring it a bust.

Dear Chicken Littles,
the sky is not falling, Cal will win in the league. Clearly, Fox can coach. The athletes are not as bad as some here say. Texas was ranked in the top 25 going into this tournament. Cal might well beat Texas a month from now. The new coach will get the young players to play better. Cal has a huge upside that will be seen this season.

I am thinking that is optimistic but even if we watch Lars get swatted when he can only jump an inch I am going to be happy with solid play to get the ball into the post so he CAN get swatted. A heck of a lot more fun to watch than Paris dribbling aimlessly for 25 seconds before a terrifying and unsuccessful drive to the rim.

While I completely agree with you I'd be a lot more sympathetic if on the flip side people didn't call others losers based on beating one really bad team that we would expect to beat. So let's have it a little even and not crown the guy for pulling it out against Prairie View and not chop his head off for losing to Duke.

I would have predicted 4-2 at this point and I don't think there is a single person who thought that Fox was as bad as the worst coach to ever coach at Cal, maybe to ever coach in the conference. I fully expect Fox to develop us into a .500 conference team.

Seriously, folks.

We stunk up the joint the past two seasons, then lost three of our better players. What do you want? A reasonable improvement for us this season would be if we went 14-18 and 6-12 in conference, something like that. We're pretty much on track there and people are griping.

Fox has proven he can make halftime adjustments. He is a real coach. Yes, we need better players. Some of them are freshmen already on the roster, but we need more.

I know this is a game thread where people post before reflecting, but c'mon.

OB:
I agree we need some evenhandedness, but I'm not sure I understand the sentence about calling others losers. Was that something common here? I may have missed it. My view: Fox is a breath of fresh air because he obviously has a plan and understands basketball. The team looks like it has mostly bought in. Can he move Cal to the next level? No idea. I think that will depend in large measure on his recruiting. We are clearly out-athleted and need some quick, long wings and dominant post players. Time will tell.

U$C has some ballers. In best case scenario we have 2.5 players that can shoot from the arc and 2.5 players that can drive to the hoop and finish. We have a decent coach. That is good enough to get Pac 12 wins.
