Ah, a blast from the past. On Monday, November 26, 1984, Cal played UC Davis for the 28th time. Cal was 27-0 going in. The game was way too close. Cal won 69-63, the closest margin of victory in the history of the series.
I worked several games that year as a stringer for the AP. That was the second game of the season and the second game I worked. It was the only game I covered where the Chron didn't bother to send a reporter, so instead they had my game story. And unlike the Daily Cal or the Oakland Tribune, I mentioned in my story that it was the closest game in series history.
Tonight was the 33rd meeting between Cal and UC Davis. Cal remains undefeated, and tonight's game tied 11/26/1984 for the closest in series history. Not that this is a good thing, but it brought back memories.
