They are giving #5 Maryland all they can handle. Lots of athletic looking bigs. What happened to four corners and backdoor Ivy League basketball?

The Furd is even going to be tougher. I watched the replays of their games against Oklahoma and Butler. They should have been picked in the top 5 of the conference rather than 10th. They are good.

Harvard hired a big name coach and great recruiter, Tommy Amaker.

That 100-2 game was during one of Bozeman's "good years" and we had to forfeit.-

Prior to Amaker, the 23&9 team under Braun (2001-02) beat the hell out of the Crimson 69-54.

Maybe. Maybe not. Stanford, Oklahoma, and Butler, are all unranked teams, and none of them has played against a single top 25 ranked team so far this season. Many teams, most teams in fact, can look good against weaker opponents, and just about every school's preseason is loaded with weaker teams. Even Wyking Jones' teams looked better in the preseason against some weak opponents. The proof whether Stanford is good will come when they start playing some stronger opponents.

Cal played Harvard twice prior to Amaker. The other time was in 1970-71, where Cal had arguably its most talented team ever: Jackie Ridgle, Phil Chenier, Charlie Johnson, Ansley Truitt, and John Coughran, and they won a squeaker over Harvard, 77-74. The Cal coach was Jim Padgett.

Phil (The Legend) Chenier is beloved here in the DMV. When Phil was broadcasting, there was always a chance for a CAL reference. Extremely humble human being.

Harvurd got smacked pretty good by USC, losing by 15. Caught just a few minutes of it but it seems like every time I check in on an SC game, Okongwu is doing something impressive. He's an absolute handful. Good luck with that, Lars.

Thanks for this. Chenier was one of my all-time Cal favorites. First time I ever felt cheated as a fan by a player leaving early. I figured it was for the best, though, considering the coaching the Bears were getting at the time, he was just wasting his basketball life at Cal. Same goes for the rest of the starting five.

At Berkeley High, Chenier and the Yellowjackets went to three straight Tournaments of Champions, from 1966-68. Chenier made the all-tournament team twice, and in 1968 he set the single game scoring record and the 3-game scoring record. That year, Wilson with Chenier's future teammate at Cal, Ansley Truitt, won the title. Another future NBA star, Nate Williams was on the Mclymonds team.

I didn't know what you meant by DMV, which around here means Dept of Motor Vehicles. I looked it up, and where you are it means DC, Maryland, and Virginia. I lived in DC for a short while in the late 1960s, on 19th, not too far from the Zoo, and I never heard of "DMV". Every day I learn something new on the Bear Insider.

PAC 12 has some very good bigs that are similar to duke's

Those will be tough matchups for our front line
