People will be quick to trash Lars because of his poor rebounding numbers. At this point in his career, he's obsessed with guarding and blocking out his man. As those skill become more automatic, and require less focus, he'll get much better at help defense and aggressively pursuing rebounds. He is reasonably athletic (remember that chase down block on the fast break?) and has plenty of length. He will be a force on the boards eventually. Note that his offensive rebounding is among our best.

Thorpe and Kuany play mostly garbage minutes and their sample size is too small at this point to really make their data meaningful. Gordon also has a small sample size.

Our rebounding margin is +1.00, but that's 10th in the Pac-12, and it should go negative when we get into conference play.

Agree Lars will improve his rebounding by getting stronger, improving his hands, and with more experience

I doubt those things happen this year, but hopefully over the next season or two

Until then he is a contributor

Exactly what is he contributing?

Contributing as a rebounder
(And stats seem to support that)

I disagree. A 7 footer being 5th on the team in RPM does not feel like a "contribution" to me.

I don't want to pile on Lars, but 2.3 rebounds in 17 minutes is pretty low for the center position. I'd expect someone his size to get more than that standing still and just grabbing everything that comes his direction.

We have some really good young bodies in Thiemann, Thorpe, Gordon, Kuany and Kelly for college basketball. Give them time to learn, grow, and find their roles and we'll have an impressive rotation of forwards in a year or two.

As I envision it:
5s: Theimann, Thorpe
4s: Thorpe, Kelly, Gordon, Kuany
3s: Kuany, Gordon

(Also, Anticevich 3/4 for another year and a half. Not a great body, but a scorer and contributor, anyway.)

Who is going to get them the ball?

Brown, Bradley, Klonaras and the new recruits coming in next year.
