Our team is getting better.

Since Austin does not distribute the ball and Brown is a better defender, I like seeing the team with Brown and JHD on the court together.

Overall, I think our team continues to improve, and am happy to see it.

In the 2nd half we played a bit with Austin and Brown on the bench and mostly Bradley at the point. I thought that went OK.

I think Brown has great defensive potential but has a ways to go to realize it. To me JHD looks like our best defender now.

Sad for jhd, because I think he was trying to be a good team player and not go for the tomahawk dunk. Made up for it w ft.
He should learn Bill Walton's drop shot from the days dunks weren't allowed..

Energy was good, clear plan on offense and the PNr defense improved in the second half (still wasn't great). I'll take baby steps

Also what gets lost in the jhd missed dunk was that it was him properly playing correct PNR defense that caused the turnover.

PNr D was atrocious in first half. Smc was picking on Austin/kelly every single possession. Bad D was often either poor communication between Austin/kelly, or Austin simply not big enough/long enough to fight thru screens and/or recover and too much overhelping by off ball defenders allowing for wide open kick outs.

In second half, cal tried to mush/push the PNR more (which is my preference). When they did hedge, the hedge man did a better job showing but not losing the screen man (which happened too often in 1st H). And cal stopped over helping. Fox made some clear adjustments on PNr defense. Also helped that Austin was on bench during the stretch run.

The difference between the 1H PNr defense and the 2H PNr defense was the difference in the game.

Again, hopefully they learn something from these games.

I would hope and expect the team to play much better in February and March and win some games over opponents of this caliber.

Unfortunately, we don't play many opponents of the caliber of Santa Clara and USF in February or March.
