Looking like Furd's going to get it done. Impressive 2nd half, especially with their stud Freshman PG Terry out.

This a result of a decade of incompetence and neglect of their program. It's been a decade since the Lopez Twins (the last time Furd was a consistently good program). The caretakers of that program dismantled the fan base that Monty and co. built (which took 15-20 years of solid to great basketball). Even if Haase is the guy, the fans wont come back overnight.

Unfortunately, these last 2-3 years at Cal have done much damage to everything that Braun/Monty progressively we're attempting to build here.

Say what you want, but Braun did have early success which led to a hopeful fan base and a Top 5 recruiting class (2003), solid recruiting overall (Randle, PC, and RA in 2006 was probably his best class in terms of performance) , and increased expectations which eventually led to his firing. The odds are against Fox lasting as long as Ben.

Attendance was very good in the late 90's and early 2000's. Especially compared to these past few years. And even with Monty's solid teams, the attendance of the Monty years never really reached that era, when people were excited about Cal hoops.

And tell me also, which coach led Cal to 3 straight Tournament appearances, which hadn't been done since Newell? Not Mike Montgomery.

Well, uh... it might also have to do with the fact that school is out and students have gone home for holidays. But you've never been one to let facts get in the way of a good rant, so carry on!

Students are a small proportion of the fans, especially atHaas. Where are the season ticket holders?

Massive props for the extremely obscure reference that I am probably one of the few who understood. Half the board probably wants to know who Gary Hart is. I think he was an afternoon talk show host or something.

Is amazing how much that was an issue back then. Gosh we live in a different time (though I do wonder absent a photo and absent the boat being named "Monkey Business" if he could have survived. ;-)

No - he and his wife were wealthy globetrotting amateur detectives in the early '80s.

Didn't Gary's brother Jim Ray play for the Giants back in the day? Or am I misremembering?

No, you are absolutely correct....form 1963-1972

He was Gary's younger brother.

Hey, Hart could join the field and run again. He's old enough, and what was serious baggage in 1988, might not even make headlines today.

I don't understand how Condoleeza Rice factors into any of this monkey business.
