Be careful what you propose: Harvard Basketball isn't the twelve East Coast nerds that it used to be.

This is 2019. Harvard beat Texas A&M. Texas A&M beat Oregon State by 15. A Harvard win would definitely not be a shock.

dear Redless. A Harvard win would BE A SHOCK. Since when does a Cal basketball team LOSE TO AN IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL WHICH DOESN'T HAVE SCHOLARSHIPS? I don't care how good Harvard has become in recent years. That simply means that Harvard GIVES A DAMN ABOUT A BASKEBALL PROGRAM WHILE CAL CARES MORE ABOUT PROVIDING SHELTER FOR THE DRUGGIES AND HOMELESS ON TELEGRAPH AVE. Everything in life is about priorities. Cal better not lose to damn Harvard....

We already did lose to Harvard, by 5 points at Haas, and it was only 7 years ago. And we lost to Yale, for goodness sakes, by 17 points, just last season, in China. Overall, Cal is 19-5 vs the Ivy League. We beat Penn in the NCAA in 2002, and we have never played Brown. Here is Cal's record vs the Ivy League :

Harvard 2-1
Yale 2-1
Dartmouth 3-0
Columbia 4-0
Princeton 5-1
Penn 2-1
Cornell 1-1
Brown 0-0

HTP:

First of all, Yogi did not insert "damn" into the fork in the road quote. That's your issue.

Secondly, Harvard (and all of the other Ivies) DO give scholarships; they just aren't athletic scholarships, but the best athletes get full "academic" rides.

Do not sleep on Harvard.

Harvard was projected as a borderline top-25 team at the beginning of the season. It's been hit by several injuries. Its top player, former Ivy League Player of the Year Seth Towns, who has legitimate NBA potential, is out for the year with a knee injury. We should be looking to him to be a grad transfer here. And its all-everything (former Ivy Rookie of the Year and all Ivy first team) point guard, Bryce Aiken, has been in and out of the line-up with a knee injury of his own. He tested the NBA draft waters last year, initially declaring, but decided to return for his senior year. He's a shoot-first point guard, who went to the same high school as Kyrie Irving. He's developed a close relationship with Kyrie and Jaylen Brown. And there's plenty more talent. This is a team whose senior class was a TOP-TEN class in the nation. Front-line players Lewis and Baker are long and athletic. Bassey is a capable defender on the wing. Sophomore Kirkwood was Ivy Rookie of the Year last year and can score with the best of them. And they have depth at guard with Juzang and Haskett. And freshman Ledlam (Massachusetts Mr. Basketball) is a legitimate wing scorer.

If Aiken plays, we should be worried. Very worried. He can get you 30 easily.

This would not be an upset at all. I actually think Harvard should be favored.

Tommy Amaker's Harvard hoops is not the same as your grandparents'he proved that seven years ago at Haas. The Harvard team that beat Cal went on to beat Cincinnati in the Tournament and took Michigan State to the wire in the second round.

Yes, Montgomery is 3-1 against Harvard. Montgomery coached Stanford to victories over Harvard in 1987 (97-60), 1995 (65-59), and 2003 (100-59), before losing to Harvard as Cal coach, in 2012 (62-67)

Yes, Cal lost that game by 20 points. What was maybe worse was losing to James Madison by 15 the previous night. Not the finest hour of Kidd and Murray, nor was it the finest Hour of Campanelli. Cal was ranked #19 going in to the James Madison game, and was dropped from the AP poll after that, never to return that season, according to sports-reference.com.

AD: You have two jobs. Hire a quality football coach if need be, and, hire a quality basketball coach. i don't want to seem presumptuous, but, i am not optimistic about the recent hires. We will know everything at the end of the season. i.e. who is leaving and who is arriving. ( hires should read hire) If Bradley leaves, there will be more cheerleaders at the games than fans. Can't someone (anyone) ship Walton to Siberia??PLEASE!!!!!A Judge recently gave a convicted defendant the choice of 10 years hard labor or be required to listen to Walton for 10 minutes..the defendant chose v10 years hard labor. Smart lad.
