I ended up talking to him for 10 minutes before I realized who he was really nice guy. His son I guess is playing for Cal as a walk-on. Recommended belotti's Italian restaurant on College he said he was going to go there tomorrow. Didn't expect to hang out with a icon when we went to the game, go Bears!

Not a Diva. Good story. Not all icons are like that. Montana is a low key dude like that too. Good restaurant suggestion.

Second that on Montana. When LF jr was in high school I drove part of the team to a basketball tournament in the city. The format was alternating boy's and girl's games so while I was waiting for jar's game there was a girl's game going on. I was oblivious at first but then realized I was sitting next to Montana. He was intently watching the game so I left him alone. At the end of the game he let out a big sigh and told me was glad that was over. Was really friendly, asked if I had a kid playing, etc. What I particularly remember him saying is that he never really got nervous playing, but was beside himself when his daughter was out there.

Before we left he was swarmed by the Berkeley High kids and he couldn't have been more gracious.

Does Dr J attend many games? They've shown him on TV a few times but I don't have a good sense how often he's there. I find it fascinating that David Robinson attends pretty much every single Duke game even though his son, Justin, is a walk-on who rarely plays. Kudos to Dad though for being there. Seeing accomplished athletes exuberantly rooting for their kids warms my cockles for some reason.

He told me this was the first game he had been to, as his son does not play much but enjoy the experience.

In Dublin's fair city
Where the girls are so pretty
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone
As she wheeled her wheelbarrow
Through the streets broad and narrow
Crying .......

Maybe the first game THIS SEASON, because I'm pretty sure he has been to a few, the past two years. On TV, they kept showing him, all by himself there, eating Red Vines. (Sorry, I don't think you made it on TV.)

Julius Freaking Erving! Damn, I would've loved to have had your seat last night, but I'm pretty sure I would've been star struck and not been able to say anything to him.

With the way Stanfurd likes to admit famous people's kids, I'm surprised he did not end up there. Maybe Dr. J didn't want his son to be an entitled snot, good for him.

Good call going with the Red Vines. I don't trust anyone who opts for Twizzlers, a totally inferior product.

Now. And you would have to ask him......

But if he is cool with it there is NO WAY they should not have this playing the next time he is in the house for player warmups.

Rodmans son played for wsu. No Rodman in the house, though. Luckily went 0-3 from three.

I think that is great. Times have changed. When I was a kid, parents rarely attended games of their kids. Most were working, and there were not long lines of parked cars outside schools at 3PM, where parents waited to pick up their kids and take them to their games or other activities. In fact, there was a stigma attached to it, and no boy wanted to be seen having been picked up after school by a parent with a car. When it was necessary and unavoidable, I used to arrange for my mom to pick me up 4 blocks from school, where I would be lurking in a doorway or hiding behind a bush. No one wanted to be called a mama's boy.

My dad had his own business, and usually worked 7 days a week. I was hoping he would come to one of my games, just one, and I hoped that if he did come, I would not screw up. Finally, in my senior year of high school, my father, who was a much better player than I ever was, did come to a game against our rival, Polytechnic, although he never told me he was going to come. Luckily, I lit it up in the first half, going 6-6 from deep. In the second half, Poly put on a full court press, and I lost the ball maybe 3 times, nearly costing us the game. Coach Neff chewed me out royally. After the game at dinner, my father told me he had been at the game. All he could say was, "Well, son, you have a good eye".

Fathers are different now, and I don't know if that is good or bad. It just is what it is.

Sat next to him at the Pac 12 game in Vegas for a while. (He moved around). He could tell I was in tongue tied awe and started laughing, then talked about how much his son was enjoying college, etc. Nice, down to earth guy. Still in awe.
