At the end of the game it was pretty loud. Not as good as 10-20 years ago but the loudest in the last few years.

9,000+ on a Sunday certainly feels better than recent years. I'm in India so couldn't watch live, but looks like the students really showed up in force, which is nice to see.
Some people also stayed after watching the 12:00 women's game.

I'll confess to being among the "some", because I didn't want to pay the full $22 or whatever the price was today to watch the Stanford game. The women's ticket cost $10, but it was well worth the wait through the disaster of a women's game to see the Basketball Big Game.stu said:

Our yell leaders have no collective memory as to what yells have been used in the past and what really works with the Cal Crowds.
They have not used the Alumni-Student Go Bears yell effectively this year at football or basketball games. That one can get really loud, very quickly if the yell leaders know what they are doing.
Calling on Ken Montgomery..............perhaps now the student spirit groups are read to hear from you as an Alum.

I love hearing about people who met their loves at Cal sporting events! And yes, old Harmon was good for the soul... even in the late 80s / early 90s with the advant of more TV, non-OT games never ever took more than 2 hours (that's basically still the case). There was such a joy of being in that student section, the irreverence, the friendships, the commmunity. Alas, times change, but, thinking about it, on my second stint at Cal, I met one of my best friends at a Cal hoops game... so that's pretty cool.

Even when it was only crowded for the better opponents, it was the loudest place I've been when the crowds showed up. I saw games there, took basketball 101 there, played intramurals there, played pickup games there and took exams there. The crowds at Harmon in the 80's were the loudest 6660 people anywhere. And an absolute blast!! Oh the memories!!

That said, I brought a colleague to the 1988 Villanova game. He'd attended Marquette as an undergraduate. He was absolutely blown away by the crowd, the heat, and the noise that evening.

I was at that game also. Keith Smith with the bucket to win it late. It was as loud or louder than ever. Massimino in the house. And yes, I used to tell co-workers I was going to my Cal basketball workout. Of course they didn't understand, so I would say it is loud, hot, intense, and when you leave 1 1/2 hours later, you are physically and emotionally drained. Not to mention I would usually lose my voice. I think when Harmon really started getting loud and intense was back in '83 or '84. Definitely was in '84, when the ucla streak ended.

I remember a great atmosphere at Harmon even during the doldrums of the Kuchen years. It was fantastic during the times of Padgett and Campanelli.
I remember the Cal student section and actually all of Harmon totally having Harry Brown's back at one game. Can't remember who the opponent was, maybe $c? Dunno, but it was LOUD! And Harry would have had the whole backing of the crowd had a fight happened. Harmon for me was amazing!

Harmon didn't even need to be near full to get really loud. One example, the January 13, 1979 game vs. George Raveling's WSU.
