The golden Bears beat the dirty furds!
Dear GoToHell: I am not "nobody." As such, I completely enjoy the Bears' victory over any furd team! That is, I really relish the moment as you should learn to do so you won't be a "nobody."helltopay1 said:
Dear Blue: The "rivalry" is overblown. Nobody cares if we beat Stanford now and then but consistently finish in the bottom half of the conference. Kids need to buy what Fox is selling. The jury will be out for another 2-3 years.
Divine response. If we were to ever meet in person, I shall lay my body down in the mud so that your feet may stay dry and clean. All hail BB.Blueblood said:Dear GoToHell: I am not "nobody." Cmon HTP, lighten up a little. Its ALWAYS good to beat Stanfurd, especially when we're not supposed to. Got to enjoy it when you can.helltopay1 said:

Is "not so horrible" the new floor? By that standard Braun's record looks pretty good!south bender said:
SCT, so maybe Fox is not so horrible a hire?

Yes---it's nice to beat Stanford--but, it's much nicer to field a very competitive program year-in-and-year-out. Two things can be equally true. Quick!!!!!!Which would you rather have---an occasional win against Stanford or a program on a par with the super-stars off the pac-12????Not even close...
I have not really wavered from my observations:south bender said:

Yep, an incredibly dumb test.CALiforniALUM said:helltopay1 said:

You kind of get both if you select the later. Not a very compelling litmus test as written.

HTP, lets bet. The first time we play Furd in basketball next year, I'll take Cal over 45. I'll even let you take the juice, 11 to 10.helltopay1 said:
Dear Redless: As Peter Ustinov sarcastically commented in the movie Spartacus, " I tingle." Here's another sobering thought. The players returning ( presumably) to Cal next year scored a whopping 24 points against Stanford. Memo to Coach Fox: Start recruiting perimeter shooters, baby, or start expecting 45 points to be the norm.
Speaking of hardly playing, the Straw Hat Band finally showed up, en masse, and then hardly ever got a chance to play (not even the Star Spangled Banner). Too many ads, ridiculous promotions and piped-in music, when you have a Straw Hat Band to use!UrsaMajor said:No dancers, but a tiny contingent of the"band" was up in the rafters (hardly played)oskidunker said:

Perhaps the one person who keeps playing it.UrsaMajor said:
I'm curious: does anyone like the "Freeze! Everybody clap your hands" that they keep doing?
This absolutely cracked me up.bearister said:TheSouseFamily said:

I was pretty critical of Ben Braun, but in retrospect, in Cal's history since Newell, Ben Braun was not bad. First of all, he did what he was hired to do, and that was to try and quickly rescue Cal's reputation after the sordid Bozeman affair, get some results on the floor, bring in some interesting players, keep the fans interest up, and sell tickets. He did all that, and won a lot of games as well, especially his first 7 seasons, which were all winning seasons. Campanelli was Cal's first coach since Newell with a winning record, but Braun's record, a .587 winning percentage was higher. Montgomery was a better coach, but Braun had kept the program going in a positive direction. He went to a Sweet 16 with Bozeman's recruits, but he also went to the NCAA four more times and won an NIT championship. He finished in the top 4 spots in the PAC10 several times. Considering all the losing seasons with Herrerias, Padgett, Edwards, and Kuchen, and Jones, we could have hired much worse than Ben Braun, and often did. He ranks 3rd best of Cal coaches I have seen, behind Newell and Montgomery. His worst decision was probably taking the Rice job, where he flopped, but at Cal he did well compared to all the other Cal coaches.59bear said:Is "not so horrible" the new floor?
