I wonder how the internet fan communities of Oregon and Arizona are writing up the postmortems on those loses.

Pac 12 just isn't very good. Doubt anyone will advance in the NCAA tournament. The best teams in the west are Gonzaga, SDSU and St Marys. Not in the Pac 12.

Interesting point.

Gonzaga and SDSU both could be #1 seeds. St. Mary's is a clear couple of notches below them and some Pac 12 teams.

The Pac 12 did well in non-conference play.

KenPom has 7 Pac-12 teams in the top 64 - Computer Rankings

Joe Lunardi's Bracketology has 5 Pac 12 teams in the tournament - ESPN NCAA Projections

If $C gets in they could easily dump some cocky team in a First Round game.

BYU is better right now than St. Mary's, and SMC has four losses in a weaker conference, only one of which was to Gonzaga. I could easily see them missing the NCAA tourney altogether. As a conference, the P12 is better than either the WCC or the MWC, though the top teams aren't as good as SDSU or Gonzaga.

The Wolfpack will demand one of those seven PAC2 spots.

UCLA sure has turned things around. I know Cronin wasn't exactly a sexy hire but nobody would argue he isn't a solid coach. And with the recruiting class UCLA has coming in, it wouldn't surprise me to see UCLA back among the top 2-3 teams in the conference next year.

Per KenPom.com's conference rankings, which rank according to the adjusted efficiency margin of a team that's expected to go .500 in conference play, the Pac-12 is better than the ACC this year. (The SEC too.)

True, but the media and casual fans judge conferences by the top tier, and ACC has Duke and UNC, SEC has Kentucky and Auburn.

I can't quite speak to the SEC but everyone around the ACC: fans, writers, coaches, etc would very willingly admit that the ACC is down this year. Way down. Obviously, UNC sitting in 13th place (out of 15) is a factor but also UVA has gone from national champs to bubble team. Even Miami who has been consistently solid in the recent decade is having a down year. Things ebb and flow in every conference obviously but this is as bad as it's been in the ACC. That said, I'd expect it to be temporary hiccup because recruiting, especially at UNC, is going strong.

The SEC is for sure down compared to the previous three to five years. But in the grand scheme (and history) of college hoops, it is probably back to around it usually is.
