Really enjoyed last night. First of all the Bears played excellent defense for basically the entire 40 minutes. Only some terrific shooting by the Buffs in the first 15 minutes kept them close. Many of the shots were contested but continued to drop. You got the feeling watching that they couldn't keep that up, and eventually they fell back to earth. Not only did the Bears play good defense but also smart defense. No stupid fouls. Only a couple of ticky tack calls early in the second half and basically no one was in foul trouble.

Excellent execution on offense and the ball was well distributed. The only player off his game was Grant, but I've noticed that over time he is very good at self evaluating from night to night, thus he didn't press the issue and try to force shots.

It was really nice to see Matt get quality shots. He doesn't need a large amount of shots to get 20+. Paris and Andre continuing to play well, and Joel played great defense as usual. And of course Kareem gave us a welcomed revival shot in the arm.

Hope to see this continue through the final stretch.

Go Bears!

I thought we gave up a few too many quick baskets in the last few minutes, especially to McKinley. But we kept scoring at the other end and didn't let them close the gap.

On offense we got only 9 assists and I don't think we got great shots but those we took were falling. That's all you need to make an offense look good.

And something of an intangible - the Colorado players really looked frustrated. We were doing something right to keep them out of their comfort zone.

Key was not turning it over AND some of the best work fighting through screens in all the days I have watched this program. They REALLY work on that and it shows on the defensive end. Next presser Nate should ask about that. Paris has really worked on that but also brown and south as well.

Brown is so good at this. He's un-screenable!

Other observations from last night:

I've been critical of Thorpe's poor hands but last night there were no signs of it. He almost had a huge alley oop but brought the ball down and got fouled. I think he was surprised Bradley threw it. Good decision. Even Fox got a chuckle at this. He missed one of his FTs but I think his shooting will improve with more reps and minutes.

Nice to see Brown shoot a 3 with confidence and make it. If he can work on it all summer it could keep defenses honest next year.

There were some major collisions with Battey and Kelly in the paint. Fun to watch.

Defense was fantastic. I think Buffs were surprised by this. Fox outcoached one of the best in the league in Boyle.

Fox starting Thorpe and K2 sending them a signal for next year? I like that Fox does not hesitate to play his freshmen and yes he may have no choice, but we know coaches are often loathe to do so.

It sounded more like a signal to some of his other players. He made the point that those two kept playing hard in the WA game even though down big, and had been practicing hard as well. Recognition that they earned something for the hard work.

Martin and Wyking played mostly a switching defense

Fox plays mostly straight up man

But yeah, we've done a good job fighting through screens in second half of season

Monty would play straight up. Team is fighting through screens at Junior Jorge level (senior level would be....well....an entirely NEW level since I think guys at some point were AFRAID to screen Jorge ;-)
