I know Ortiz is a grad transfer, etc., and that I am biased, but does Cal WBB recruit unusually mature and thoughtful young women?

Karisma must have graduated after three years of college. She played her freshman year at Penn State. She transferred to Texas , and had to sit out her sophomore year. Karisma played for Texas last season(2020-2021), followed by her Grad Transfer to Cal for the 2021-2022 season. To come home to play basketball at Cal, then to sustain a season ending injury before the start of the season has to be devastating. It has been good to see her at the Cal games supporting her teammates. Student Athletes are special, especially, if they are a BEAR!
