Mater Dei vs Etiwanda | Girls Basketball | 3/8

If someone wants to double-check my numbers, I added up Puff Morris's points and came up with 30. She does make a ton of free throws like someone already stated.

The free MaxPreps article says 32 points. I'll post below and they basically say what you said about Mitty.

Cal football had an offensive lineman named Kevin Swillis (#75). Two of his daughters are members of the undefeated Clovis West team that travels to Archbishop Mitty on Tuesday night for the Northern California championship. The senior is Alexis Swillis, a 6-3 center, who was the high scorer vs San Ramon Valley. His other daughter, Sydney, is a 6-0 freshman shooting guard.

Alexis Swillis will be playing for UNLV next season.

Check out soph PF Maya Hernandez of Loyola Marymount University. She played for Archbishop Mitty and was a great all-around player with a high basketball IQ. Maya was the 6-0 senior center when McKenna Woliczko arrived as a 6-1 1/2 PF freshman. They played off of each other and dominated other team's big people. They did it with defense, rebounding and scoring.

Maya hardly played last season for the Lions as a frosh, but this season as a soph, she has emerged as perhaps their best all-around player. She is playing 30 minutes per game and is 3rd in scoring with 12.8 ppg. She leads the team in rebounds with 7.8 boards, steals with 63, shot blocks (28) & is second in assists with 40. Hernandez has 45 turnovers in 30 games (1.5/g). Maya is a great passer and obviously a tough player. She has ***85 offensive rebounds*** for her team and the next most is 36. If the Bears cannot get bonafide big time post through the transfer portal, Charmin Smith might want to consider an over-achiever like Maya that knows how to win. Her two sisters, Hunter & Haley, both started and contributed to the Mitty dynasty, too. Her father played pro football, and she wears his #55 to honor him.

Great win by Etiwanda against an elite opponent.

It's probably too early for stats to be out there, but I wonder how Morris did. From the running posts on Maxpreps, seems like she made some 3s.

Archbishop Mitty Monarchs triumphed over the Clovis West Golden Eagles, 64-60! It was the best high school basketball game that I have seen this year. Both teams full court pressed the entire game. I need to go eat my dinner, but I'll return with a summary. I have a page and one-half of notes. This is the fifth consecutive Nor Cal Open Division Championship and 17th NorCal Championship for the AM Monarchs.

Rematch for the 3rd consecutive year for the state title: Mitty vs Etiwanda. It will be fun to watch and scout Puff Morris as well as the young Mitty team that will return their top nine players next season (including McKenna Woliczko).

I was watching Mitty-CW while Carondelet was hanging to beat St. Mary's of Stockton.

It was really a poorly played game by both teams, compared to their usual standards. Mitty only made one three, I think. Then again, both teams defend well, but still -- I saw a lot of missed shots, odd turnoverrs, etc.

Of course both would crunch Carondelet, but it wasn't the best of either team.

As for Etiwanda, Stan Delus is a brilliant defensive coach, they recruit elite talent and it will be an ugly war at Golden1. It's always hard for high school players to adjust to NBA courts and arenas, so I don't expect a lot of offensive fireworks. But it should be an intense, hard-fought game.

Defense played by both teams was incredible. I've been saying for quite some time that Mitty's offense might not be good enough to win. They cannot hit shots from the outside. Strangely, the Monarchs connected on back-to-back threes in the final couple minutes to stretch out their lead to eight points. Ze'Ni Patterson hit from the right corner & Devin Cosgriff followed with one from the left corner.

Love that 03:07 to 03:30 mark where Puff hits back to back nothing but net 3's.

She sure can shoot!

At the 21:45 mark Puff locks down the best player on OC-forces her into a travel-and wins Etiwanda the game.

You really can't ask for more with the game on the line.
