St. Mary's held Anigwe to just six shots, even though they were playing a man. They just sagged off everyone, and the only one who could hurt them was Asha Thomas. She was 5-8 from three, and the rest of the team was 2-17. As long as at least one player is hitting threes, Cal will be okay, but you'd certainly like more consistency.
St. Mary's, on the other hand, is a veteran team with more than a few redshirt seniors, and a lot of Australian/New Zealand talent – they play smart, physical basketball and were a very good test. Paul Thomas is a good coach, and they're always of threat in the WCC.
So all in all, a nice win for the Bears, but I don't know if they changed anyone's expectations about the coming season. Somebody has to make outside shots, or Anigwe will be surrounded by three players every time she touches the ball all season long.
