Great article in ESPN about how Kemba Walker became an excellent shooter. After hitting only 30% on threes in his rookie year, the team hired a shooting coach for him to change his form. After trying the new mechanics for awhile, Walker got frustrated and wanted to go back to his old mechanics. The head coach, Steve Clifford, told him he could use whatever form he wanted, but if he kept his old form, he would never do better than 30% on threes no matter how much he practiced. And he would always be just an average player. Walker then stuck with the new mechanics, and has now become a reliable 38-39% from long distance. The next time we have a solid athlete with grade school mechanics (sidespin release, etc.) I hope that we will pull out this article and start the same kind of process as soon as they enter as a freshman.
