Chance to see how our major rivals can do this weekend against strong competition:

1. Stanford takes on #3 Baylor Saturday afternoon in Palo Alto. ASU gave Baylor a good game a couple of weeks ago. (As of yet, DeCosta is not getting much playing time as a Baylor freshman.) Kim Mulkey performing on the sideline is always worth the price of admission.

2. Oregon State meets up with Texas A&M on Saturday night in Hawaii. Aggies are not as strong as in previous years, but Gary Blair's teams always play tough.

3. Oregon plays #5 Mississippi State at home in Eugene on Tuesday. Will be interesting to see if Oregon will start to try to play some actual defense against their opponents.

I didn't see anything on the Baylor fan forum about an injury. But they are saying she is having some early freshman struggles learning to play man defense at the level that is expected under Mulkey.

Baylor does have the depth to make freshmen really earn their playing time. However, they are apparently having some problems at point guard after their starting PG had to be dismissed from the team.

Got it from Nor Cal Prep when I asked this question. Said she didn't play in the first 8 games.

That was early on because they were transitioning her to become a parameter defender, to make better use of her quickness and speed.
That was just early on because they were still transitioning her into a parameter defender, to make use of her quickness and speed.

So Stanford beats Baylor, but let's them come back almost all of the way at the end.

OSU goes down to Texas A&M. For some reason, Destiny Slocum plays only 21 minutes, scoring just 7 points and with only 2 assists. Have to follow up on that to see if there is some kind of an injury issue.

Turns out that two of A&M's best players on last year's Sweet Sixteen team have left this year as grad transfers - one to Texas and one to Mississippi State. May be a further trend among really good players who have the opportunity,

Looks like Mississippi State is staying on the West Coast after playing Oregon for a game with USC. Chance to see what USC's 8-0 team can do against a great opponent.

OSU/Texas A&M story on ESPN.com says that A&M was "injury-depleted" but no mention of any OSU injuries. Game was played on Maui. Apparently, OSU has been hosting a tournament there for last 3 years.

A&M hosts USC on Wednesday, while Mississippi State goes to Seattle after the Oregon game to take on the Huskies on Thursday.

I predict those Berkeley girls will savagely maul those Santa Barbara girls. Or not.
