any advice would be much appreciated about whether/which cal parking structures are open to non-permit holders weeknight evenings, ie - 6-ish? no answer came back from a request for information from the listed email address. tnx in advance.

Parked there for half a dozen functions at the stadium other than football games. You're a block from the stadium. It is a little pricey. Some functions provide a parking slip to use so you don't have to pay.

After 5 pm, anyone can park in any Cal lot, but you must pay. Buy a permit at one of the yellow parking kiosks. Not sure of the cost but the cost of a ticket for not paying is steep, so be sure to pay.

There is a lot just south of the Greek Theatre, next to Bowles Hall. There's also a lot hidden behind the buildings on Piedmont across from the stadium (entry driveway is on your left as you drive down next to the business school). And there are plenty of places along the stadium rim.
