Moraga, have you got any new info on Cal and the recruitment of Davis-Jones?

What's encouraging is that she retweeted both Mia Mastrov's and Jayda Curry's commitment tweets.

She's following the Bears. That is encouraging.

Jayda and Marisa played for the same AAU team Westcoast Premiere. I believe Kianna Smith played for them to years back.

Ouch! Davis-Jones (6-1 wing) may be a tough matchup for Cal's 2021 roster. Hopefully our bigs learn how to block some shots close to the basket. GO BEARS!

Come to think of it, after landing Mastrov and Curry we might not have necessarily really wanted to fill another spot from 2021. We have 3 openings left, but that's for either/both the 2021 and 2022 since we have no rising juniors except Richey a walk on.

Junior - 1 walk-on
Sierra Richey

Soph - 4
Leilani McIntosh
Cailyn Crocker
Jazlen Green
Evelien Lutje Schipholt

Frosh - 6
Dalayah Daniels
Michelle Onyiah
Ornela Muca
Fatou Samb
Sela Heide
Alma Elsnitz

2021 - 2
Mia Mastrov
Jayda Curry

2022 - 3 (2 + Richey)

There is one top California player who has yet to make a commitment - Rayah Marshall of Linwood, At 6'3", she is listed as a guard by ESPN, but could no doubt play the wing at that size. I seem to recall a long ago picture of Marshall and her mother with Charmin. Any chance that we are still being considered by this top 20 player?

Tough competition for Rayah Marshall. Raoul says "Marshall has offers from Arizona, UCLA, UConn and Oregon, among others." Are we part of that "among others"?

We have 1 senior (Styles) and 0 juniors. We recruited a TOTAL of 3 players for those two years and 2 left.

Fortunately the 1 senior, 4 sophs and 5 of the 6 freshmen should make a spirited rotation.

My thoughts exactly! Not mad about it if we are finished with 2021 recruiting. Can really be selective come 2022.

Why do you think she chose Wash. over Cal ? Not enough playing time/ too many other players at her position or Cal's academic requirements alot more higher than at WA ? And yet WA's own home girl chose Cal over them.

Who knows it's conceivable that the California coaches decided that this year's tremendous haul of SF, PF and Post athletes was going to make playing time tough for any new incoming wing recruits the following year.

The coaches may have decided that the flexibility of keeping this scholarship open was a superior strategic decision. A much better long term decision then signing a good but not great surplus wing who was behind this year's recruits and potentially unhappy with limited playing time.

This open scholarship adds flexibility which the coaches can more effectively use next year.

From UW's perspective, I'm sure the dogs didn't want to lose another recruiting battle for a top player to the Bears. Charmin swooped into Washington to sign Daniels and Heide. two top in-state recruits for the Bears 2020 Class. With Davis-Jones not available to Charmin, maybe she'll give Daniels a look at the SF position?

I watched a recent interview of Davis-Jones talk about her recruitment. She still sounded bummed that Duke did not work out. Then with UW she said they've recruited her since 8th grade and she knew the staff extremely well this whole time.
