Men's Discus Throw

1.) Mykolas Alekna, CAL 68.73 m
2.) Ralford Mullings, ASU 63.47 m
3.) Iffy Joyner, CAL, 56.61 m

Mykolas destroyed the previous Pac-12 Meet Record by 3.3 meters and set a new NCAA RECORD today breaking the 30 year old mark of 67.06 set by Kamy Keshmiri from Nevada-Reno in 1992.

He set a new personal record for himself by just over a full meter.

Much more in store for this 19 year old Golden Bear!

It's a shame unless I blinked nothing was even mentioned about the discus event during the Pac-12 live broadcast. Yes, it was one of the final events and my recollection the only NCAA record set during the meet but yet was completely left out.

In yesterday's broadcast, they totally IGNORED the field events.
Didnt show a single event.

Mykolos is now just one full meter away from the Olympic Record, set by his Dad.

I recorded it hoping to see him throw but was shocked that they left him out.
CAL should do something special to recognize this achievement.
Maybe he'll break the world record while at CAL.

Agreed!

CAL needs to "market" him as the face of CAL Athletics like there's no tomorrow.

NCAA's coming up in Eugene and the World Championships in July as well.

They should not miss this opportunity!

They did show quite a bit of the women's hammer throw followed by a terrific interview with Camyrn Rogers. Of course that was the first night and not much events that day.

Historic meet for the throws squad! And some awesome performances all around.
That tv coverage on Sunday was bizarre with no field coverage. But as a hammer thrower, being able to watch the entire men's competition live was epic. Top 7 with lifetime bests, and Ivar is getting closer to taking out the school record.

GO BEARS!

I believe that Mykolos' Dad is 6-07.5 and 285!
He has the second longest throw in history at 73.88m in 2000.

Gold Medals at Sydney and Athens, and a Bronze in 2008 at Beijing.
World Championship Gold's in 2003 in Paris and 2005 in Helsinki.
Silver in 1997 in Athen's and 2001 in Edmonton.

The discus was a 1.75kg(3.9lb). That is the world standard discus for the U20 division. Highly unlikely that Mykolas ever threw the US high school discus, though he did throw 58.45m in 2019 with the 1.5kg(3.3lb) as an U18 athlete.

Sorry guys, my bad.
I was watching a bunch of his videos and got "lost" on what I was posting.
More than likely, OskiHammer is correct about him never having thrown a U.S. high school discus.
