The prediction of a last place finish may largely be due to a very young squad:

4 Juniors
2 Seniors (One Senior is a transfer from Utah)

Although the team had a steep decline in Feller's latter years, it's been a straight-up dumpster fire recently. Softball had a similar decline, being ranked #1 about 10 years ago with Val Arioto, then everything fell apart. I think Chelsea Spencer is the right person for that job.

When multiple "bigs" transferred out-the program collapsed. Forte was one of 'em.

I think several of the transfers were framed as being COVID related when it didn't look like there would be any volleyball in 2020. If there were other reasons, they were not spoken of publicly.SBGold said:

In the match with Army - into the fourth set, only 7 Bears have played: Grote, Schmidt, DeJardins, Meader, Hayden, Scott and DeSa.
I can't find any explanation why many Bears are not playing so far.

Since the SDSU game is streaming, I do see Sam and Sydney are in uniform - so no idea why they haven't seen the court

We looked good. Grote is showing why she was a top 100 recruit and our 3 highly touted freshman attackers played well. Scott needs a bit of work on offense but just look at those blocking stats. Onward!
Do we have any news on recruits for this next signing class? I'm so far out of the loop. I want to be as dialed in as those 2002-2013 years. Man that was fun! We had such an incredible run from Jerkov to Murray/Lloyd.
Against UCSD (no video so just live stats) - Cal comes out strong in set one, but leading 19-16, loses their way and loses set 25-22 on two attack errors from Grote. But, in set two, Cal wins 25-13

UCSD only played one yesterday beating Army 3-1. They take on SDSU tonight.

In the three matches, Cal frosh got a lot of playing time. I don't know how well Meader set (meaning her assists numbers seem good, but that is not the whole story), but with her height, she offers an option that Jensen can't.
