Lagi didn't just hit 2 home runs. She crushed them. The first one was a tank over the CF Fence.

Elon nearly had our third of the inning. Just missed the RF fence.

Lagi started the season slow but seem to adjusting now to college ball. Think we have two terrific catchers Lagi and Herrera.

I visited the Oregon website and looked at last year's results. The Ducks thrashed the Bears in Berkeley in a three-game sweep. The games were not close. Oregon returns their pitching and most of their hitting. Their stats this season are good so it should be interesting to see how this weekend in Eugene turns out. Their pitching is a tiny bit better than Cal's ERA but our offense has scored a couple more runs per game GO BEARS!

The biggest difference is power. Oregon does not have many power threats in the lineup. We have 34 home runs to Oregon's 15.

Correct, CF! The outcome will be whether Cal can open on the road in the Pac Nine and continute to proliferate long balls. If one reviews last year's games at home, Bears either failed to hit a homer or hit one in the last game.
Bears had great HR numbers last season, too, so I hope that we can continue our level of play. GO BEARS!

cal fanatic & s71 (and anyone else), as a newcomer to college softball do head coaches for programs in drizzly azz weather like the rainy azz northwest (oregon) recruit slappers & fast runners more than power hitters due to the usually inclement weather?

do warmer weather schools usually lead the nation in home runs?

good to know the significant discrepancy in home runs for the bears vs the ducks!

Like most teams in the last few years, the NW schools have largely dropped slappers from their offenses. There may be somewhat less "carry" when the air is cold and full of moisture, but the approach at the plate up here is not appreciably different from anywhere else in college softball. The ladies swing away and shoot for the fences.

The starting lineups are posted on live stats. Does anyone know when Mika Lee will return to the lineup? She is a superior offensive player than Hope Alley. Tatum Anzaldo can return to 3rd base and ML to CF. GO BEARS!

As I recall, Cal has had trouble with Stevie Hansen in the past. I hope that the Bear batters can find some offense on this beautiful day in Oregon.

Cal veterans respect the Oregon ace, but I guess that "the freshmen shall lead them." They've never seen her before so back-to-back bombs. Cal leads 2-1.

s71, have u noticed that as the 3rd base coach chelsea gets a lotta runners thrown out on low percentage base advancements attempts?

with all the home run power wouldn't it strategically make sense for the bears to not run themselves out of innings?

Shocky1-yes-I have been critical of Cal's base-running. It costs the Bears runs. Fortunately, today, the score is 8-1 but it could cost a game or two this season if we don't clean it up.

Elon Butler goes yard again to RCF with a three-run blast of their second pitcher and she's being replaced. The Mitty product now has 9 HRs.

That was an insane throw to third. Nopt the coach's fault.

My beef was with the batter, why was she stuck at first. She should have run to second base.

Add two more runs in the T7th and the score is now 11-3. Haylei Archer enters in relief for the B7th. The Cal senior yields two unearned runs but strikes out Ariel Carlson with the bases loaded for the final out. Bears 11, Ducks 5.

Nitecap should start at 6pm. GO BEARS!

I checked to see how often anyone scores 11 runs against Oregon on the season. None. Indiana opened the season scoring 7 runs in a tourney. The most scored on Oregon's home field was 6 runs by Nebraska.

I'm also beginning to think that Cal's new hitting coach, Telesco, might deserve some credit for the swings that the hitters are putting on some decent pitches. Thoughts, anyone? GO BEARS!
