Cal competing in the Pac-12. After 1st day Cal men stands in 4th place with 29 pts and women are in 6th place with 23pts.

Highlights for the women were Lauren Martinez winning the PV with a school record of 14 ft, freshmen Camryn Rogers 3rd place in the HT and Noelle Schiller 5th in the LJ with 20-1.75w. It would had been a freshmen record if it didn't exceed the legal wind limit.

21 out of 29 pt for the Men came from the shotput.

McKay Johnson took second place with a throw of 64-5.75. Johnson led the competition for the first four rotations before Arizona's Jordan Geist outdistanced his throw in round five. Peter Simon, the reigning champion in the event, finished third with a throw of 62-1.00. Malik McMorris took sixth as he had a throw of 56-9.25 while freshman Joshua Johnson rounded out the group with a seventh-place mark of 55-5.00

Other outstanding marks by the men was Takeshi Okada in the 3000 SC for 3rd place. He ran in the slower heat but his time stood up against the faster heat. Also freshmen SanJay Kettles was 5th in the LJ for some valuable points.

Day 2 of the 'ship will be tomorrow. Not sure who will be competing because some might be sitting out for the
regional NCAA 'ship.

It's also on the Pac-12 network live on TV now. Where are Cal sprinters? No men or women 4x100 relay team or mens 4x400 teams. Pretty pathetic unless we are sitting out some athletes for the Regionals.

Just more of the same from Tony Sandoval.
Pretty pathetic indeed.

Women

100 Meters Prelims: 17. Jackie Patterson, 12.08w
200 Meters Prelims: 22. Jenna Mencarelli, 24.91
400 Meters Prelims: 19. Jenna Mencarelli, 56.09
100 Meter Hurdles: 17. Windy Margerum, 14.54w

So basically, you had only 3 Cal sprinters across 3 events and none of them were remotely competitive.
A sophomore and two freshman.

Men

100 Meters: 16. Branndon Marion, 10.71
200 Meters: 22. Branndon Marion, 22.40

The Men were even worse, 1 sprinter.
There wasn't any Cal entry in the Men's 400m.
And to top it off, senior Ashtyn Davis.... a favorite in the 110m hurdles.... crashed at the 8th hurdle and finished in 7th.

The only reason the Men finished in 6th overall was because the throwers racked up 39 of the 67 points.

The women finished in 8th.

And once again there was no Cal woman in the 800m Final, Sandoval's "specialty".
The three women in the prelims placed 14th, 16th, and 25th.
Best time was 2:10.79

Nor was there a Cal woman in the 1500m Final.
Only a frosh in the prelims, placing dead last (24th) in 4:47.81

This may have been the "thinnest" and weakest Cal TEAM in years.
And that's saying a lot given how uncompetitive Cal has been at the Pac-12 Conference level.
