First game without DN and TL as the Interim Head Coach played Siena and won convincingly. Siena is by no means a powerhouse but good to see the big win. I was not able to watch this game since it was not televised but will be able to watch again the JMU on FloSoftball. They have come a long way for such a small private school as they are ranked in the top 25 in ESPN/USA Softball poll.

Cal pummeled the Siena pitching but Siena pounded Cal's pitching, too. Alex Perez yielded three doubles and a homerun in 3 IP. She seems to have lost "it" (confidence).

I was umping yesterday so was not able to follow along. Cal beat a good Connecticut team 8-4, and Siena 14-6 second time around. The real test will come against JMU later today at 11:30. They are a top 25-ish team. Isn't it amazing that the team is just winning and not by a point or two either.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the hitting has improved but then again it is against non-pac-9 or SEC pitchers. Next week against Oregon at home should be a real indication of where we stand. Still our pitchers are giving up too much runs against these teams. Hope to be at a couple of these home games (finally)!

What is with 2 bunt plays in the initial four innings against JMU on Sunday morning? Saiki attempted a sac bunt but got the runner thrown out at second base. Yingling bunted out in front of home plate with Kondo on third base & got the lead runner tagged out by the catcher. Besides giving up an out in the midst of a rally, the Bears are failing to advance the lead runner. This must be a carryover from Ninemire softball. Top of the 5th, Cal has lead-off walk but runner is picked off. After all three of these snafus, the following hitter responded with a hit.

Looks like in the 1st game today Cal loss against UCONN 8-0. The UCONN pitcher is now 9-0 for the year. That's what happens when you compete against a good pitcher.

Cal led JMU, 3-2, after four innings but was outscored 8-0 in the 5th & 6th. Romero yielded three solo HRs and a couple of unearned runs. Perez came on in relief in the sixth and the onslaught continued...The Bear's defense commited five errors in the nitecap and two in the morning affailr. The seven errors were attributed as follows:
3B Medellin (2), 2B Saiki (2), SS Hammoude (1), RF Agbayani (1) & C Smith (1). Freshmen contributed a half dozen. The Bears lost Sunday's DH 18-3.
