Before Atlee but after Forrest Beaty, Olympian Eddie Hart too. Forrest Beaty really was a long sprinter 200/400.

Don't forget that Isaac Curtis was runner up to Eddie Hart in the 100 at the NCAA Meet. Atlee Mahorn Was 15 years later.

Forrest was the California State HS100 and 220 yd. sprint champion from Glendale Hoover HS. He was one of the elite sprinters in the country. Forrest also played football for Glendale Hoover and sustained a leg injury, which affected his sprinting prowess. Cal T&F Coach, Brutus Hamilton, recruited him to come to Cal. While Beatty never regained his 9.4 sec 100 yard dash speed from HS, but Coach Hamilton developed him into a highly competitive 440 yd dash man, and a vital member of Cal's championship Mile Relay Team. The legendary Cal T&F Coach was one of the best US middle distance coaches,

He also ran a straight 20.2 220 yards, a record that may not be broken since the 220 straight is no longer part of track meets.

Well, if you're going to expand the list like that you'd have to throw in Chris Huffins, for sure. Mike Farmer was a one year phenom in '78. I believe Philip Pipersburg was as fast as Khalfani Muhammed and Curtis Rogers was pretty good, but concentrated on the long jump, mostly.

El Cerrito's Roddy Lee was mainly a hurdler

Citation: The Cal great Leamon King tied the World record for the 100 yard dash at 9.3 seconds at the Modesto Relays.

How about adding the Cal great 100 / 220 yd sprinter Willie White. Coach White coached at Berkeley HS since 1966. He was a World-class sprinter who ranked 4th in the World at 100 yards in 1957, 10th in 1958, and ran a leg on Cal's World Record sprint medley (3:18.8, 1958) and placed 6th in the 1960 Olympic Trials 100.

How much of our Cal "metrics" has been lost in the conversion to the metric system and time/history?

I don't remember Mike Farmer ... except for "thee" Mike Farmer of USF basketball. I was referring to a local Lad named Dixon Farmer who ended up running for Occidental U. Should have been a Bear.

Cal great hurdler Roddy Lee participated in the 1972 Olympics in Munich for team Taiwan. Medalist twice in the Asian Games.

Yes, and Forrest's ability to run the turns, along with his natural speed, made him a very good quarter miler. I think his best 440 yd. time (non-relay) was in the low 47s. Jack Yermam, Dave Fishback and Pat Weddle comprised the Bears top mile relay quartet.

At the 1964 NCAA's at Edwards Field Beaty ran a 46.3 or 46.4 in the 440 finishing second with Dave Archibald third (or vice a versa).
