Governments appear to be settling with businesses charged property taxes and fees when closed during the C-19 pandemic. I'm not aware of a case decided yet, but governments are running scared and settling. Property taxes are used to provide services and needs that continued during the pandemic. Fees often provide services directly to the property that continued. For example, your property still needs waste water (on which a properut owner pay fees) removed if it rains, even if your business is not open. I suppose on property taxes there is an argument that property has less value, and there is authority under Prop 8 to reduce taxes, but that isn't what the plaintiff businesses are arguing.

If this result goes to all business that shut down for some period during C-19 the price tag could be huge for you the taxpayer, and the consequences could be dramatic for government, and what happens when CA faces the next pandemic? Blame plaintiff attorneys if you want, but the number of lawsuits are now climbing.

I bet a lot of these businesses have already covid relief funds and added their family members to the payroll during the pandemic so they could get more covid money.

I'm tired of my money going to these businesses.

I propose that we make up the shortfall by charging a 30% consumption tax on all meals eaten at the French Laundry

Didn't you know taxpayer money is "funny money?"

Local government officials roll around in it like pigs in sh@it by having programs, studies, consultant reports, etc. prepared by companies run by their buddies in return for the government official getting their beak wet. It has always been that way, and always will be.

The government employees that are the gatekeepers safeguarding our tax dollars are either on coffee breaks surfing Pornhub or actively stealing our money.

Government said which businesses could operate and which businesses had to shut Dien... Whyshouldn't government cover the fees of the businesses government forced to shut down?
