The America haters that support Jordan consider that an asset in his resume. He would get additional supporters if he was a molester.

Point of order, as the R's are likely to elect a new Speaker shortly: did not having a Speaker for a week and a day materially matter?

Scalice gets the nomination but doesn't have enough votes to win, as @20 Repubs won't back him. Jeez, what a dysfunctional flustercuck that party is.

Until the GOP is able to elect a speaker AND perform the basic minimum governance function needed, it certainly does "material matter."

Even if you only cared about the economy (and I'm not saying you do), having a base level of government function is required and the GOP is way too comfortable walking right up to the line. This sort of thing shouldn't happen ever, let alone multiple times in a decade, let alone multiple times in a year. Yet here we are. It's embarrassing banana republic nonsense and it's always the GOP that's doing it.

The person with the most support right now is Hakeem Jeffries. How long until ~5 Republicans do the right thing for the country, cross the aisle, and vote for him?

It's like the Presidency. Popular vote doesn't matter.

Lets be real. Never. It would be the end of their political career. Same in reverse.

This is such a **** show. I actually don't think it is hurting government's ability to function but it has to be doing serious damage to the R brand. "Hey vote for us…then watch us in-fight instead of pretend to do things you care about"

I expect the current speaker mess makes a government shutdown November 15th more likely. I'm supposed to travel back east for a week of training in late November. They've already told us to not make any hotel reservations in case of a government shutdown. Flight and rental car reservations are OK. I expect it'll get postponed anyway. I'm using my own credit card and will probably have trouble getting reimbursed in the unlikely event that we do go through with it during a government shutdown.

I don't even want to think about working but not getting paid for it until after the shutdown ends. Good thing I have enough money to get through for 9-12 months.

Once again the Republican Clown Show is on full display for voters to see. They can't even keep their caucus together and voters are taking it in. If you can't even elect a Speaker of The House, then how are you going to govern the country? This will be remembered during the next election. Maybe they should just forget electing a Speaker and return to trying to connect Joe to Hunter. Hakim and Nancy are making these clowns look like idiots.

Ok, can you expound upon this weird statement? Seeing as we're 33T in debt and Social Security/Medicare are on a 7 year timeline before getting a haircut....how not funding the government at the moment will effect that timeline.

Yes, I'll expound. Medicare is not funded like Social Security and it contributes to the deficit every year. You like government money when it goes to your family and you complain about government money when it doesn't.

If we're 33T in debt and that debt is going up, that means inflation is going up because we're increasing the money supply. If inflation is going up, then the dollar is worth less, that effects medicare you clown.

The government is funded for however long the last CR said. 60 days? 90 days? No worries about social services programs...it will probably take something like that for the stupid (expletive) Republicans to get their **** together and actually agree on a human to lead them.

It was 45 days back when it passed. And that was about 2 weeks ago?

Yeah. They are spending ALL of their time on the jousting for leadership power. This ideology vs that slant. Personal grievances, power plays, threats and back room deal making are the game.

Then in 5 days they'll whip together some MASSIVE debt level spending proposals that nobody has read other than the lobbyists who paid for it with their campaign contributions.

Very sad.
It's no wonder China says they can accomplish far more far more efficiently.
I'd have to agree.
Hopefully they are a compassionate kingdom.

Incorrect.
China buys lots of our debt and that takes it out of money supply. US economics is not a closed system.

The problem arises when we have to pay it back. We are long term crippling ourselves.

LA Times

To the editor: The answer to the House speakership issue is so obvious the Democrats should announce their support for former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.). ("Jim Jordan loses second vote for House speaker," Oct. 18)

They would get the five Republicans votes necessary to make Cheney speaker, because she gives moderate Republicans cover while also slapping the face of the MAGA faction.

With Cheney, the Republicans would have a conservative speaker, and the Democrats would have an honest House leader (which is all they are entitled to as the minority party in the House).

Both parties should wake up and get this done.

Great, no money for our allies, Israel and Ukraine. No money for that porous border that you like to complain about. All that Meth and Fentanyl coming through what should we do? Last but not least why in the hell should we fund the government as you can see everything is going great in the country and the world.

The Republicans can't even agree to temporarily share power. The state of the Republican party is that they are a doomsday cult and not a political party. They want to break government but don't have the slightest idea how to put it back together so it works for the most people possible
