The Breaking New Thread got me thinking about cover songs, and damn there are many of all kinds and shapes from better to weird to out there. So there's the thread. Points for "never thought I'd see that", weird paring and of course "improvements" from the original.

I always like this one because of the hot rocker chick covering dude music. Hasn't aged as well I as I remember but maybe it's because I'm playing in on an iPad and not the monster stereo.

I know there's more than a few ringers in the crowd here, so have at it lads.

Not so much a typical cover, but what Prince did at the end of this is a classic.

There is a wonderful podcast devoted to covers - Coverville - its a fun way to cross genres and hear new music.

Marc Bolan had a pathological fear he would die in a car crash. I guess it was more of a clairvoyant fear.

Another rocker adding to the folklore of live fast, die young. He was 29, so not part of the 27 club. The only way I knew about T. rex was because my left it in the record pile.

Kurt Cobain would be 52 today but instead he has a bit of immortality.

Man, that's the All Dead Group. At least The Band is only
3/5th dead. Rock is a hard life. Ingestion of all kinds of bad stuff that alters your body chemistry.

If they locked me in an interrogation room at Gitmo playing a continuous loop of Mr. Spock's musical stylings, I'm pretty sure I would charge the wall head first.

They say that the key do doing a memorable cover is to make the song your own. I would say CSN&Y pulled that off with this Joni Mitchell tune:
