I understand that California has announced that as of April 1, 2019, out-of-state retailers will be required to collect and remit sales tax for goods sold online to customers within the state. This is a result of the Supreme Court Wayfair ruling. I've collected Sales tax on a small part-time business in Caifornia for 30+ years. It is a burden for the minimal revenue produced. I fall under the threshhold for required reporting so this is not an immediate concern.

However Ebay notified me last week that they will now start collecting Sales tax on out of state purchases that I make after eBay auctions. This seemed to be an expansion of the Wayfair sales tax decision expanding the scope pf the transaction outside the traditional buyer/seller relationship. Will the next step be adding the tax to credit card purchases out of state? Having the middleman or facillator collect sales tax instead of the seller is a new requirement that caught me by surprise, what's next?
