I went to a John Cleese talk last night and he played this clip. He wrote the scene after learning there actually were taunters as part of Medieval armies that would go before the lines and insult the opposition. He always found this idea hilarious.

He is not steeped in principles the way the career foreign service professionals are. Witnessing the difference was remarkable. We should no longer entertain the concept of "political appointees" (aka: donors)being ambassadors.
