In a cosmic bit of coincidence: I gave "Eruption" and "You Really Got Me" a listen just last night. Nothing left to say...

Not even close? Hendrix, Page, etcetera...

Any way, may EVH rest in peace. As I am a hard rock and metal fiend, I really enjoyed his art.

Chuck Berry

I think you could fairly say Van Halen was the most influential of his era though. RIP to him.

Not even close. EVH literally changed the way the guitar was played.

My mother used to work in a bank branch in Beverly Hills in the early 1980s.

Lots of famous clients passed through. Eddie and Alex Van Halen were two of them.

She said they always came in together.

My mom was born and raised in Amsterdam and she loved that they were Dutch and could speak Dutch to her.

At the time they were well-known, but had not yet become superstars like after the release of 1984.

My current house is within walking distance of the house where Eddie and Alex grew up in here in Pasadena. Maybe I'll walk over and reflect on that. From humble beginnings came greatness. People will be listening to Eddie's music for decades to come, though. He made his mark on the world.

In all the tributes I have read Valerie Bertinelli is not mentioned in most of them, which is a shame.

Van Halen? Excellent!

RIP Eddie!

I have no problem with that assessment. I just had to poiint out the hyperbole in "that ever lived or will ever live", and I'm a big fan.

Yup, that's why I brought up Berry, who IMO is at the top of the list if you're talking about "most influential." None of those other guys could have done anything without him.

Holy sh*t. Had no idea EVH was part Indonesian. No wonder he looks part-Asian!!!

You know who else is of Dutch and Indonesian descent? Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell.

This is a good interview. He talks about being an immigrant. Being a minority. Facing discrimination from the white kids.

One of the more influential white guys maybe. Maybe you need a lesson in social justice Yogi.

Without Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry and BB King there is no R&B, rock, etc. And jazz folks will tell you about Wes Montgomery.

For hard rockers, EVP was an inspiration with his techniques and support devices. In fact brilliant. But his style is limited. As for playing hard rock riffs during that era, I will take Slash and Young thank you.

Well, that's because you're:

A) Ignorant as hell
B) Don't know that EVH wasn't white
C) Never played guitar in your life and don't realize what an absolute bombshell Van Halen was to rock guitar

All in all, you're just a dumb ass fscking Trump voter and that's all you'll ever be.

" A quote to remember from a 2012 Esquire interview with David Curcurito:

I am the best at doing me. Nobody else can do me better than me.
You know, Eric Clapton is Eric Clapton. Nobody does Clapton better than him. Nobody does Hendrix better than Hendrix. We're not trying to be anything other than who we are." Axios
