Cal loses 1st game of the season 4-1 vs NC

Must had the wrong start time for this game. Zoe started this game and pitched all 7 innings but gave up 9 hits this time against North Carolina, while Cal could only generate 5 hits. Cal had the based loaded in the 7th inning but McClure couldn't get the clutch hit for the 3rd out.

Where is the box score for this slug fest? Cal has six pitchers on their roster so I'm curious which will develop into reliable counterparts to Zoe...Evidently, it is not likely to be Kristin Cullen. However, after yielding 7 runs in the 1st, Cal pitching held GA Tech to one run over the remainder of the contest which is a promising sign.

    Baseball box score

JJ played shortstop, VA replaced her in RF and AA given another game off as catcher.

After four games (3-1 record), Cal lacks power [HRs (0)] on offense. I also was projecting that frosh Bradie Fillmore, soph Kourtney Shaw & senior Katie Sutherland-Finch might be next in the pitching
rotation. Ninemire has started Zoe Conley in 3 of 4 games and failed to employ the services of the three hurlers named above. Both junior Kristin Cullen & senior Stephanie Trzcinski were not impressive in their respective, 2017 debuts.

I also noticed that frosh recruit, Zoe Marrott, a left-handed hitting infielder, is no longer listed on the roster. Does anyone know her status?

Fighting Illini should provide a major test for the Bears tomorrow. They have just played the identical schedule to Cal and are 4-0. Illinois has outscored their opposition 33-5 with 7 HRs. The Fighting Illini have outscored UNC & GT by a huge margin: 9.04 runs to 1.35 per game. Their defense has been perfect-zero errors-through 26 innings to date...

Cal actually opens up the Mary Nutter Classic next weekend w/ University of Illinois, too. The Bear's initial half dozen games of 2017 are evenly split two each with Ga Tech(ACC), North Carolina (ACC) & Illinois
    (Big Ten).

Schroeder71: Knowing Ninemire as well as we do, don't you think she may have already seen enough in Zoe to pencil her in as
"The Ace." I'd like to see what Bradie can do, but maybe it's better to give ZC as many innings as possible to get her in the grove.
    Does this make sense?

Yes-I don't have any problem with her being the ace or #1 starter but overuse of Jolene Henderson proved to me that it would be prudent to have a solid #2 pitcher. The only Cal pitcher that successfully pitched most of the key innings was Jocelyn Forest when Cal won the CSWS back in 2001 or 2002. Most of the top teams have more than one these days. GO BEARS!

Sunday early morning game has the Bears winning against UI 9-5. KSF got the win pitching 2.1
scorless innings. Still no homeruns for the team.

Good win against an undefeated team! Second straight game that Jazmyn played SS. Wonder if Rood was injured in one of the games. Cal scored all 9 runs in the 5th inning and 5 were unearned.

Yes-impressive victory over an undefeated team that had only allowed 5 runs over 4 games. Cal also used their entire pitching staff to close out the final game of the Puerto Rico Tournament. I have similar questions regarding the health of Lindsay Rood and Bradie Fillmore. They both missed the last couple of games. Also, Fillmore was the only pitcher on the six member staff that was not given some innings here...In a strange curiosity, the Bear's offense was no-hit for the other six innings by the Fighting Illini staff. GO BEARS (4-1)!

I'm so out of the loop compared to previous years, is Fillmore injured? I got the chance to watch her 3 years ago and there is just no way she isn't good enough to be #2. I hope her and Shaw get some time in the circle this weekend.

Oh geeze... I guess that would be 4 years now. Ugh, I feel old.
