I hope his old coach at Moanalua HS who is a Cal alum, Coach AK Martinez (now at a different HS, Kaiser), can convince him of the merits of Cal and especially a Cal grad degree!

    Go Bears!
It worked for Shareef and Jaylen Brown. That seems like the main MO for Cal poaching a top player/recruit.

The "He's going to the west coast" thing has a number of assumptions. Said by the coach. Did the player say that, exactly? Does the coach back there think that the west coast includes Hawaii? Was the player telling the coach a certain choice had been made when he said what the coach thinks he said? Et cetera.

If the player is going to visit all those seven schools on the cut list (is that allowed?), then it sounds like somewhere one or more of the above assumptions is not valid.

But, there is still hope for us that he does prefer the west coast, (hence the coach's quotation), best school on the list, best chance to make a newsworthy name for himself in an exciting newish program, best chance maybe to play for sure, and best area arguably to live and experience life.

I don't mind off-topics, but it's sort of a non-sequitur. Or perhaps a false dilemma. I don't believe much of anything I read about what recruits (or in this case a transfer) are looking for if it's not a direct quote. There's a lot of made up rumors, a lot of reading too much into what a player says, and even the fact recruits are humans who often change criteria multiple times in the same day. Hypothetically, Pagano decides he's going to transfer and says to someone "It'd be nice to be closer to home. Maybe somewhere on the West Coast." Suddenly, headline: PAGANO LOOKING TO TRANSFER TO THE WEST COAST!"

It's not true, or could be an easily changed opinion, and people actually rely on it as news. This is a long way of saying, I put zero stock into this stuff, and it makes following Cal football less stressful. I recommend it.

Yeah grand I agree, but that 1 in 7 chance is looking pretty good to me until I see us win a bunch of games in a row this year I guess!

Some of those schools aren't much closer than Clemson!!
Part of Pagano's family moved to Central, SC when he enrolled at Clemson. I guess this makes location not as important as some of our posters seem to think.

What you say is accurate. It should definitely not be regarded as news. In this day and age, one should be on guard for arguable fake news.

Is it better to have indulged the imagination and then have lost or to have never indulged at all? The post generated speculative fodder which more than likely is just wishful thinking and is probably more than useless. Better to have not posted at all? I'm not arguing one way or another, just curious as I understand that I need to temper by posts and am constantly trying to mitigate annoyances from my posting. But as I have stated before, I'm still trying to figure out when to hit the post button or hold back.

Oh, I'm not trying to tell others not to speculate. Have at it! As I said, I put zero stock into these stories/rumors, and it makes following Cal football easier, for me.

So, not even a visit to Cal?

Hoping we haven't cooled-off on grad transfers...
The University of California - One of the finest universities in the world, is the oldest public university in our great state with origins dating back to 1855, and university status granted in 1868. Go Bears!

Maybe one of the coaches can talk to him on a layover when he flies home to Hawaii.
