Not to mention the thrill of visiting Clovis.

By the way, the game is tonight. I picked Wednesday because someone said it in a blog. when I checked their real schedule, it was Friday.

All the Open games are tonight ... the divisional quarterfinals are all tomorrow. Next week it's Tuesday/Saturday, with the state title games March 24 and 25 at Golden1.

I have always told everyone that the CCS girls teams in most every common sport are superior to the CCS boys. They have been historically. However, in the first round of 2017 NorCal Basketball Playoffs, the CCS boys finished an unprecedented 11-3 while the girls registered a record of 8-6 (D I-D V). To be fair, the boys team are not likely to send a team to state while the CCS girls have legit shots in the Open, Division I & Division V.

Home teams won the vast majority of the first round games per usual. There were some road upsets pulled but not very many...The higher seed serves as the host school. The CCS Open boys representatives, Bellarmine (25-2) is the 7th seed and must travel to #2 seed, Sheldon HS-Sacramento. Archbishop Mitty is the #6 seed and must visit St Joseph-Notre Dame (Alameda). Mitty's star player is 6-5 junior Riley Grigsby, son of former Cal great Al Grigsby. The Bells are the best team in the CCS this season.

In DI NorCal girls on Saturday, #9 Folsom (Mckenzie Forbes) visits #1 seed, Menlo Atherton (29-2). In DI SoCal girls, #8 seed La Jolla Country Day (Alaysia Styles) goes on the road to #1 seed, Windward. Tonight in the girls SoCal Open, #8 seed Troy (Kianna Smith) takes a long trip to #1 power, Clovis West. ENJOY!

In other games, Kianna Smith and Troy lost a close 68-61 game to the nation's #4 team, Clovis West. Here's a little video: And here's a tweet from the Clovis West coach, giving Kianna and her team big props:

In NorCal, #2 Carondolet was upset 48-47 by #7 Cardinal Newman, #3 Pinewood beat #6 Bishop O'Dowd 51-43 and #4 St. Mary's/Stockton easily handled Salesian, 72-49.

In the other 3 SoCal games, #2 Long Beach Poly beat #7 Fairfax, 77-58, #3 Mission Hills beat Etiwanda, 54-40 and #5 Bishop's School beat #4 Harvard/Westlake, 63-60.

Kenzie Forbes had a big game in Folsom's huge 57-40 upset win over #1 Menlo-Atherton tonight in D1 bracket. #4 Oak Ridge beat #5 Berkeley so two Sacto teams will square off Tuesday in the NorCal semis. #2 McClatchey will play #3 Heritage in the other NorCal game Tuesday. In SoCal, Sierra Canyon beat Brea Olinda and will play Windward after the #1 seed knocked out Alaysia's #8 La Jolla Country Day team tonight in one semi. #2 Alemany will play #3 Ventura in the other SoCal semi.

In girs NorcCal D1: Folsom stunned top-seeded Menlo-Atherton on the road as McKenzie Forbes goes for 25. Play at Oak Ridge in semifinal next

In D2, Miramonte easily handled Elk Grove and will play #3 Valley Christian Tuesday. Yet another "us against the world, the refs are all against us" whineathon -easily the biggest thing I dislike about high school hoops. Unfortunately, there often seems to a be "white girls get all breaks" undertones if you sit near opposing fans. In the other NorCal semi, #1 Vanden will play #4 Saint Francis. In SoCal, #2 Mater Dei will play #6 Valencia and #1 Orangewood Academy will play #5 Independence.

In D3, #1 SI crushed #8 Shasta and will play #4 St. Mary's Berkeley. #2 Campolindo crushed #7 San Marin and will play Pleasant Valley-Chico in the other NorCal semi. In the SoCal semi, #1 Rosary Academy will play #4 Leuzinger and #2 Camarillo will play #6 Serra.

Congrats to Kenzie Forbes! She may be the PG that Cal has been looking for since Brittany Boyd graduated. Top seed Menlo Atherton was defeated handily 9999957-40) on their home court by #9 Folsom. West Campus advanced to in D4 w/ Kiara Jefferson.

CCS boys returned more to normal in the 2nd round but still competive overall record of 6-7. Big upset was in DI where #9 Palo Alto upset #1 seed Dublin on the road, 83-80. CCS girls suffered a couple of upsets in the first round but were strong w/ an 8-3 mark in 2nd RD. MA was only disappointment. Both boys and girls suffered one loss each to another CCS school so deadend street there.

I think Kiara Smith would be more of a point guard then Forbes. Forbes is more of a wing.

    Basketball wvit-thankyou for the correction

I've not seen Forbes play yet for Folsom. Based upon Kianna's stats, she appears to be a 2 (SG). She doesn't have a ton of assists:

Yes, this is what the Clovis West coach tweeted to Kianna's mom:

@superflykicks Your daughter is special! We've played 7 nationally ranked teams and she is the best player we've played against this year.

Craig Campbell, the Clovis West coach, is a great guy, and he knows what he's talking about. That's high praise ...
