Another frosh QB, J. Bentley, won the starting job mid-season and had better stats (scoring, completion %).

Tough for a true frosh to play well right away. Unlike his high school rushing stats (1341 rush yds, 6.5 yds/carry, 27 TDs as a sr) and defensive stats (49 solo tackles as a sr), McIlwain's h.s. passing #s weren't impressive at all.

QB is probably not a good fit, but if he's really interested in Cal he's got plenty of athleticism and potential size (listed now as 6' 1", 205 lbs) to try out for us at RB or S, maybe bulk up to LB.

or maybe he's just looking for another program that'll let him compete at football, while playing baseball...

What is his first love? Divided focus seldom produces excellence. 0.100 (1-for-10) with a RBI as a freshman. Do his h.s. baseball #s look remarkable?

He's a legit baseball prospect. Don't know which sport he prefers.

Played in 8 games as a true freshman and a star in Baseball but been sidelined with an injury.

Much deeper than that but I can't get into it. I will say this- his character is beyond reproach. Let's just say that SC is going out of their way to cooperate with the transfer.

I recall that South Carolina is a big baseball school. When I was there a few years ago for the Masters one of the bars in town had a lot of their memorabilia for decoration.

We have a bunch of young QBs, but are any of them any good? For that matter, would this guy be any good? I'd love to be a fly on the wall as JW, BB and MT make their initial assessments over the next several weeks, just to hear their honest appraisals.
