Tho hadn't known of Maija's surname/ethnicity change from "Roses" to "Rosas"...or perhaps she's just Tasija Karosas' long lost cousin...

Rosas took top honors in the 100 breaststroke, touching 1st in 1:10.54. The Cal Golden Bear Rosas led an American charge that saw them finish 1st, 2nd (Peyton Greenberg – 1:12.80), and 4th (Jessica Antiles – 1:13.59). Only Israel’s Keren Wasserman (3rd – 1:13.48) upset the podium sweep.

    Amen!

Brill facility + really luvly views!!

Actually it looks like the Kantrida Centre houses at least 3 different pools:

The squarish pool with the brick coloured diving platform tower (i.e. Thleen & Murph's photos) + the Olympic-size outdoor one with that imposing arch, which you can actually walk right to the top of (as some of the braver Team USA swimmers did during their training camp for Kazan 2015!) + the pool with the neat sliding roof...

Here's another video on this eye-catching facility:

    Anina @ Budapest 2017!

Sorry had overlooked this bit of old news - yet another will be competing at Worlds...Anina Lund, who has dual U.S. and Danish citizenship, will be repping Denmark (and Cal of course )

    ------

DENMARK TO SEND ITS LARGEST-EVER WC TEAM TO BUDAPEST

Among the sixteen swimmers on the roster, there are three who have training bases in the States. Anton Ipsen (NC State), Anders Nielsen (Michigan) and Anina Lund (Cal) have all trained with NCAA teams in the US.

    https://swimswam.com/denmark-send-la...team-budapest/

    ------

Anina Lund had placed 4th in the 200m Free final @ the Danish Open in April, which along with the Swedish Open constituted Denmark's qualifying meets for 2017 Worlds, so we'll prob get to cheer her on in the 4x200m Free relay @ Budapest next week!

Have also noticed that Anina's PBs are actually faster than the winner's & runner-up's times in the following 3 events that she didn't race @ the 2017 Danish Open finals!

    400m Free: Anina's PB (4:14.91) v. 2017 Danish Open winning time (4:15.35) & runner-up time (4:20.14)

    800m Free: Anina's PB (8:45.22) v. 2017 Danish Open winning time (9:00.37) & runner-up time (9:02.91)

    1500m Free: Anina's PB (16:36.89) v. 2017 Danish Open winning time (17:36.50) & runner-up time (17:43.18)

CAL SWIMMERS SET FOR FINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

    7/20/2017 9:2 AM | By: Cal Athletics

Kathleen Baker and Jacob Pebley will each make their mark in the backstroke in Budapest

BERKELEY – Both the Cal men's and women's swimming programs stand a strong chance of making a major impact on the 2017 FINA World Championships as several Golden Bears are set to represent their countries over eight days of racing in Budapest, Hungary.

A number of Team USA's biggest stars at the 2016 Rio Olympics will again be in action for the United States this summer. Three-time Olympic gold medalist and world record holder in the 100-meter backstroke Ryan Murphy will compete in both the 100 and 200 back, while eight-time Olympic medalist Nathan Adrian will vie for more international success in the 50 and 100 freestyle. And, both will be major factors in several of Team USA's relays.

A qualifier in the 200 backstroke, Jacob Pebley rounds out the Cal contingent competing for Team USA on the men's side, and all three men will do their work under the direction of head coach David Durden, who was selected as head coach of the United States men after his training group captured nine medals in Rio.

On the women's side, two-time Olympic medalists Kathleen Baker and Abbey Weitzeil earned the right to compete for Team USA by each posting a strong showing at the Phillips 66 National Championships. Baker, who captured silver in the 100 back and was a member of the gold medal-winning 400 medley relay in Rio, is qualified to compete in all three backstroke events (50, 100 and 200) in Budapest. She captured both the 100 and 200 back at Nationals. Weitzeil will compete in the 50 free after a second-place finish at Nationals secured her spot on the United States squad. Both should factor in relays, as well.

Several of Cal's international standouts will also be in action in Budapest. Two-time Olympian Zheng Wen Quah is set to compete for his native Singapore and will swim both distances of the butterfly and backstroke in Budapest. For the women, Farida Osman will swim the 50 and 100 fly as well as the 50 and 100 free for Egypt after winning a NCAA championship in the 100-yard fly in 2017. Current Golden Bear Anina Lund (Denmark) and incoming freshman Robin Neumann (Netherlands) will also compete in the 800 free relay.

    USA Swimming: vs.

    Racing starts tomorrow. Let's go #TeamUSA!! #FINABudapest2017

    ------

Not going to be around to catch the action , but go watch NBC Sports or the Olympic channel for the broadcast/live streaming - or check out the corresponding "live recap" articles on SwimSwam for updates!

Farida (EGY) will be racing @ the morning heats in the hopes of advancing to semis in the W 100m Fly, and look for Nathan to likely anchor the M 4x100m Free relay for Team USA @ finals.

Guess there's a chance of Robin (NED) or Anina (DEN) being selected for their W 4x100m Free relays @ prelims - with Abbey having a slimmer shot of being called up for this relay in the morning, esp if she had proven to be particularly fast @ training camp...though prob. just wishful thinking on my part lol, as Weitzeil didn't make the Top 6 @ Nationals. The longer relay on Thursday's the surer bet for our pair of international s, however.

Should be the Sjostrom, Hosszu, Ledecky & Peaty shows in the W 100m Fly, W 200m IM, W 400m Free & M 100m Breast respectively on Day 1, though Siobhan-Marie may well give Katinka a run for her money in the IM, in spite of the latter enjoying the home crowd advantage...
