With a thin roster, particularly at point guard after the transfer of freshman PG Charlie Moore to Kansas, the Bears made a critical late addition to their 2017 class with today's commitment from Birmingham (Van Nuys, CA) senior point guard Deschon Winston.

The 6-2/180 Winston averaged 17.6 points, 3.8 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 steals for the 27-4 LA City Section champion Patriots this season.

Also a strong student, Winston will bring his 3.9 gpa to Cal as he starts summer bridge in less than two months in Berkeley.

Winston joins a class of former teammate Juhwan Harris-Dyson, Justice Sueing, Grant Anticevich and Trevin Knell for 2017, with Knell deferring enrollment to 2019 after his summer mission.

Stay tuned for more on Winston's commitment coming up.
