Newhall QB JT Shrout
Rose Bowl and former NFL and CFL star Joe Kapp and rocket-armed Cal and NFL QB Kyle Boller led the way as top Cal quarterbacks from the shadow of Magic Mountain, as Hart High School (Newhall, CA) quarterback JT Shrout became the latest Hart QB to become a Cal Bear with his commitment this morning.

In his junior season, Shrout backed up Eastern Washington signee Nick Moore, a dual threat QB who scored 14 tds on the ground in addition to his 19 tds through the air in 2016. But despite Shrout's lack of playing time, he displayed a lively arm throwing at school camps and 7-on-7 play and still garnered 10 collegiate offers, though Cal is clearly his top offer to-date.

After visiting Cal unofficially this weekend, Shrout made his commitment announcement via Twitter this morning, saying:

"First off, I'd like to thank God for the blessings he has put in my life. Also, I want to thank my mom, dad and my sister for sacrificing countless hours of driving me to practice and supporting me at games since I was a little kid. I would also like to thank the coaches that have helped me become a better player and person.

"It has been a blessing getting to know Coach Wilcox, his staff, and to have the opportunity to play college football at a great program as well as a phenomenal education that will prepare me for life after my football career.

"I am excited to announce I am committed to the University of California, Berkeley! Go Bears!"

The 3 star QB is the ninth Cal commit of the 2018 class, joining receiver Nikko Remigio, tight end McCallan Castles, offensive tackle Jasper Friis, defensive tackles Atonio Mafi and Justin Kakala, defensive end John Henry Tevis linebacker Omari Harris and outside linebacker Nick Alftin.
