BERKELEY -Cal senior inside linebacker Raymond Davison was announced Monday by Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as a nominee for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, one of the most prestigious off-the-field honors in college football.
Davison was one of 146 student-athletes from the FBS, FCS, Division II and III and NAIA college football programs nominated for the honor that awards student-athletes for their outstanding community service achievements and commitment to giving back.

"Being nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® is an incredible honor to me," Davison said. "Football is about more than making tackles on Saturday. It's about giving back to the same community that supports you, whether that is imparting wisdom on the youth, feeding the homeless, or helping adults who can't help themselves."

Davison has consistently visited local schools and community organizations as part of the community service activities of the Cal football team. Schools and community organizations he has visited include Bret Harte Middle School, Kaiser Elementary, La Escuelita, Lincoln Elementary, Manzanita Community, Manzanita Seed, Markham Elementary, Murphy Elementary, Parker Elementary, Stege Elementary and West Oakland Middle School.

On the field, Davison has played in 35 career games with 16 starts to rank second among the team's active defensive players in both categories. He heads into his senior season also second among active Cal players with 111 career tackles while he has added 3.0 tackles for loss (-4 yards), one interception that he returned for 39 yards and a touchdown, four pass breakups and one fumble recovery. Davison had a career-high 69 tackles and also had Cal's lone interception return touchdown of the season as a 2016 junior.

Comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA, the final Allstate AFCA Good Works Team roster of 22 award recipients will be unveiled in September. A special voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® members and prominent college football media members will select the 2017 Good Works Team.

Once the final team members are announced, college football fans are encouraged to visit the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® website on ESPN.com, featuring profiles and images of the players, for the opportunity to vote for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® Captain. Throughout the season, fans can also follow along and join in on the conversation by searching and using #GoodWorksTeam on their social media channels.

Former Cal players Nick Forbes and Jeffrey Coprich were members of the Allstate Good Works Team® in 2013 and 2014.
