Point guard Darius McNeill officially added to Bears' roster
BERKELEY -California men's basketball's roster of talented guards continues to grow, with four-star prospect Darius McNeill becoming the latest addition to the Golden Bear squad.
McNeill, who graduated from Westfield High School this year, signed a scholarship offer to join Cal's freshman class and will be eligible to play immediately.

"Darius is a great addition to an already impressive class," said head coach Wyking Jones. "He's a tremendous athlete who can play both guard positions, and he plays at an unbelievable pace that fits our style of pressing and picking up the tempo offensively. Most importantly, he's a great young man who dedicates himself in the classroom along with spending plenty of time in the gym. He definitely fits the culture we have here at Cal."

The 6-3 point guard is ranked a four-star recruit by and a three-star prospect by Scout, Rivals and 247sports. The No. 21 overall player in the state of Texas, he earned all-district honors as a junior after averaging 14.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists for his Mustang varsity squad, and repeated with a first team all-district honor this year. McNeill led Westfield to a Bi-District Championship as a junior.

McNeill joins Grant Anticevich, Juhwan Harris-Dyson, Austin McCullough, Justice Sueing and Deschon Winston. The Bears also added Boise State transfer and Oakland native Paris Austin to the roster this summer. All six freshmen are eligible to play immediately, while Austin will become eligible for the 2018-19 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

"I'm very excited about Darius and the other young men we have in the freshman class," Jones added. "I'm looking forward to what they will all be able to accomplish together."
