Sonora cornerback Chigozie Anusiem
In maybe their most productive recruiting weekend ever outside of Letter of Intent week, the Bears garnered their fourth commitment in three days, with 6-2/175 Sonora (La Habra, CA) High School cornerback making the call for Cal.

Despite offers from hometown program UCLA, Notre Dame and more, Anusiem's connection with Cal and the Bears' coaching staff sealed the deal with the big 4 star corner.

"I loved it a lot at Cal," said Anusiem. "It was all that I imagined it to be and more.

"I was expecting sort of an old school, traditional feel and I got some of that but I really like the new school feel, too, with the new facilities, new uniforms and new coaches."

A strong student, Cal's academic profile was a major priority for Anusiem.

"Academics are my number one priority," said Anusiem."Having a strong degree, like one from Cal, will really set me up for my future."

The 3 star corner's relationship is strongest with his future position coach, former NFL DB Gerald Alexander.

"I talk to Coach GA pretty much ever day along with some of the other coaches," said Anusiem. "We just have a really good relationship, really strong.

"Even though he coached in the NFL, he doesn't talk a lot about it, though he'll go into it if you ask him."

Anusiem was there with fellow 2018 recruits -running back Richard Newton and Texas linebacker Jacob Mangum-Farrar, though they each visited at different points of the day and were usually in different places at any given time.

Anusiem starred on both sides of the ball for Sonora, picking up 45 tackles and 9 pass breakups on defense and 21 receptions for 546 yards and six touchdowns, with a whopping 26 yards per catch, earning all-league honors for Sonora.

The Bears were the big corner's 13th offer when they extended their offer in June.
