Strengths

His production is at the top of the list in my opinion. He had over 4,600 yards of offense to go along with 51 touchdowns and seven interceptions in just his junior and senior seasons. These numbers are tremendous but become even more amazing when you think about the fact that he played quarterback, receiver, running back, and defense. He really did everything for his Merkel team. This kind of versatility and production is something that should allow him to find a role on the Baylor team even if it is not the position he starts at. This kid just knows how to play football and is good at it, that should allow him to be a very solid contributor at the next level.

Weaknesses

The numbers are incredible and should not be overlooked but his competition left a lot to be desired in high school. Merkel is just a 3A Division II school so they do not exactly play the most talented teams in the state. Most games he was the most talented player on the field which makes gaining really good numbers significantly easier. The other knocks are position fit and testing numbers. I am not sure that he will stay at running back but he will start there. I could see him playing defense as well but he and the staff need to find the right fit sooner rather than later. The testing numbers that I have seen from a TCU camp are a 4.5 40 time and a 4.19 shuttle time which are great but I would like to have seen him at a camp to get true numbers since those were, more than likely, hand timed.

How I see him fitting in at Baylor

White plays running back this year and gets to redshirt. Then heading into next season he moves to defense at either safety or linebacker depending on how much weight he put on at running back and how his tackling is. He won’t play much as a RS-FR but as a RS-SO I think you start to see him get used to the defensive side of the ball even more and he becomes a ball-hawking type on the defensive side who will force quite a few turnovers. If he stays at running back, it will be his RS-SO year before you really see him at all unless there is attrition.

Rating Explained

I really like Jonah and the way he plays football. I think the fact that he does not have a true set position and his lack of offers weighs down his rating some but I expect him to be a heck of a player. His film shows the kind of talent he is and can be.

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a Bear Insider rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the Bear Insider Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide Bear Insider readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Cal and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Cal and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
