Two weeks after the Bears wrapped up a week of practice in preparation to face Stanford in the 121st Big Game, they were back at it again Wednesday in Berkeley.
Justin Wilcox, Tim DeRuyter, and Camryn Bynum addressed the media after practice.
HC Justin Wilcox
On how the extra week of game planning for Stanford has been: “We don’t reinvent the wheel every week. We have certain things within our scheme that we use, more of this less of that, personnel groupings, and all those types of things.”
On how it's been having the coaches out and about this week: “They haven’t been, just one guy kinda here and there. Everybody has been there other than Monday, so it has not been that different.”
On the last three days are they ready to go: “We have Thursday and Friday, but we will be ready. We have a process for our preparation, and we are in the middle of it.”
On if Chase is treating this game differently then Idaho State: “No, He is not. They don’t know all of a sudden try harder because its big game week, they have tried the whole time.”
On Chase Garbers Development: “I think his decision making has gotten better and better. When you got a young player, you are going to see progress, and it's not straight up. I think he has steadily improved and that is what we need him to do.”
On Noa playing in the big game: “We are hopeful, honestly its day to day. We are hopeful.”
DC Tim DeRuyter
On how you approach the game plan after having another week to prepare: “It’s almost two weeks to get ready for a team, I like our guy's focus, and I think our guys understand what they are trying to do. Now it just comes down to execution.”
On how recruiting plans might have complicated things a little bit: “I was in a couple of cities, I was in Seattle Sunday morning and then in Orange County Sunday night. You bounce around and do what you can, we had some coaches on Monday still recruiting, and we go on the road again tomorrow night. It is a little bit tough on schedules on coaches, but its just what you got to do.”
On the defense being only one touchdown behind the offense: “Our job every week is to outscore the opponent's defense and as long as we do that we will be ok.”
CB Camryn Bynum
On Covering JJ Arcega-Whiteside: “I just know I have to be on top of my game. Also, he is going to try to come out here and make plays, and I am going to try and do the same.”
On what it will mean to win this game: “This will mean everything, just as a program and knowing we haven’t beat them in a while.”
