Plummer Makes it 10 For Cal

The Bears reeled in one of their prime longtime targets at wide receiver today with the commitment of 6-3/200 Episcopal (Alexandria, Virginia) High School WR Jaiven Plummer‍.

The speedy (10.93 100, 4.49 forty) receiver brings the size, athleticism and catch radius the Bears were targeting to add to their talented young receiver corps.

The 3 star Plummer (rated 87 and the nation’s 77th WR on 247 and 5.6 on Rivals) announced his commitment via Twitter this afternoon, saying:

“I would like to extend a huge thanks to all the coaches and mentors involved in my recruiting process. Making a decision has been an extraneous process, but nonetheless, my parents and other family members near and dear to me have helped tremendously along the way.

“This is an extremely great opportunity and I owe all thanks and glory to God.

“As I am thankful to all 22 schools who believed in me and extended an offer, I’d like to announce that I will be attending and playing for the University of California Berkeley!!! GO BEARS!!!

Even though Plummer currently resides in Virginia, he has Sacramento-area roots and a grandfather -Barry, affectionately known as Big Daddy- whose day was made with his grandson’s commitment to the Bears.

“My brother got a scholarship to Cal back in the 80’s, Craig Patterson,” said Barry. “He played under Coach Kapp in the 80s. So that’s when I became a Cal fan. I was not an athlete but my brothers were athletes.

“I’ve been following Cal ever since and Jaiven knew. He played for a team out here called the Inderkum Tigers, his first football team when he was probably nine. I was already a Cal fan and his team’s colors were blue and gold, so it was almost meant to be. I’d always wear one of my two Cal hats, either yellow or blue.

“Every time I’d go to visit Jaiven, he always said he hated playing in cold weather after he moved. He grew up out here spending time with me and my wife, his Big Mommy.”

Plummer’s family and extended family all had a chance to see Cal up close and personal on his visit last month and the trip meant the world to the lifelong Cal fan watching his grandson grow into a star athlete.

“The fact that my wife and I got to experience the visit with him and his parents to Cal was special,” said Barry. “They touched on absolutely all the things that were important to us. I mean, it can't be like that everywhere. Coach Coach (former Cal DB and current Director of Career Development Ron Coccimiglio and his message and all he does for the players. Coach Burl (Toler), such a great guy. I think all of their concepts are really the way we raised our family.

“I mean, if Jaiven went somewhere like Temple, I’d have to be an Owls fan but the fact that he chose Cal is so special. Oh my goodness. Benji and his staff. Everyone at Cal is just so great. Everything was just perfect there.

“I’m so happy for J.”

Besides finalists Stanford, Virginia and Rutgers, the Bears also beat out West Virginia, Virginia Tech, BC, Duke, academic powerhouses Princeton and Yale and more for Plummer’s services.

Plummer joins prior commits Justyn Martin‍ (QB), RBs Kaleb Johnson‍ and Jaydn Ott‍, OG Sioape Vatikani‍, DEs Jaxson Moi‍ and Nate Burrell‍, DT Damonic Williams‍ and OLB’s Curlee Thomas‍ and Nunie Tuitele‍ in the current 2022 Cal recruiting class to-date.

Stay tuned for more on Plummer’s commitment.

Hey Jaiven, welcome to Berkeley. You might tell 24/7 sports that you aren't going to Virginia. They seem to be slow on the uptake. It's been a week and they still haven't figured that out.

Anyway, great to have another Plummer at Cal.

Of course, it Cal decides to play any games at the Oakland Coliseum, they will need more than one more Plummer..

It's the academics.
The difference between a right wing conspiracy and the truth is about 20 months.
