Cal should really reduce the capicty of CMS again by putting in plastic chairbacks on all sideline seats that are not the student section. The benchbacks are crap and sections like T and TT that could actually go for some decent prices are still spaced like 1920's sized seats. I say this as someone who is 6'2', making seats wider doesn't help the fact the depth is not enough for taller people. Benchbacks are also obnoxious because the seat doesn't flip up, so it's still hard to pass without stepping on people's feet, beer, etc.

They could also add more specialty seats like the ones with tables in the corners/endzone. Having such a gradient between club and regular seat prices and comfort was a huge mistake in hindsight. Making non-club seats totally suck has just not driven many to pay 5k-8k for club seats...

In person attendence is competing with TV where every game is televised and a decent 65" TV can be had for the price of one season ticket.

And all those attendence figures are sadly jacked up due to season ticket sales, but people are skipping 2-3 games a year.

There needs to be creative/innovative thinking to change the entire experience. Im talking picnic tables with a view of the game, places to take pictures for Instagram, better drinking and food options, etc. Differentiate more vs just watching from home.

I like tailgate town concept but it's just a give away shwag venue at the end of the day. The live band is pretty good and fun.

Anyone who believes Stanford has averaged 43,263 over the past 5 years is delusional.

Worst game experience of my life was sitting a couple of sections north of the student section at the Big Game when it was like in Sept or Oct during the first season of the new CMS. The section was completely packed and we all had to sit at a 45 degree angle just for a little space. It took us the entire halftime to go get a beer and come back to our seats -- play already started when we got back and we were hustling the whole time. Unless it's one of those socially distanced games due to it being an unattractive draw, I am always going to sit on the westside and preferably in a chairback.

This is nothing new, unfortunately. I've been coming to games since 1964 and the norm year in and year out is poor attendance. Compared to now at least back then the Big Game was well attended and sometimes sold out. The peak Tedford years are really the outliers in all this time, with a few blips like 1991 here and there. the flip side is that for years I had plenty of leg room for most games.

Not true. There are least 20K in fans masquerading as empty seats each game.

Honestly, when I go to a Cal football or basketball game (like I am tonight at Haas), I expect to sit on a bench. Never had a problem with it. Just my opinion. Been to 200+ games at CMS and 500+ at Harmon/Haas and not once did I wish I was in a more comfortable seat. I will admit it's a hassle to get down the aisle during the middle of the game if I have to use the bathroom or go to the concession stands, so I try to minimize those trips (harder to minimize now, with kids).

The article seems to think they share a stadium too.
