Executive
Greg has overseen Bear Insider's daily activities since he purchased rights to the website in 2017. A life-long Cal fan, he has been a donor and season ticket-holder for Cal football and basketball for almost 30 years. During the Ben Braun era, he worked as a writer covering basketball. Outside of Bear Insider, Greg has served in a variety of senior executive roles within leading game companies including Electronic Arts, Eidos Interactive and Rumble Entertainment. Greg graduated from Cal in 1989 with a degree in political economics and lives in Menlo Park with his wife and two kids.
Staff
Jim has been with Bear Insider since 2003. He's covered Cal Athletics with an emphasis on football, basketball and recruiting for nearly two decades. Jim is a Cal grad (Class of ’88). His wife Susan is also a Cal grad (Class of '89) and he has three kids - two in college and a high school senior. He has followed Cal football and basketball since childhood in the early 70s and has been on the NFL Network and several ESPN, Fox Sports and local radio and podcast outlets providing Cal football analysis.
Mike played quarterback for the Golden Bears from 1987-1991, graduating with a degree in communications. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and went on to play in the NFL, CFL, and XFL. Mike is currently the host of Gridiron Outdoors on Outdoor Channel, a color commentator for Cal football on Comcast SportsNet and Fox Sports Net, and owner of Pawlawski Sports, LLC. He lives with his wife and kids in Northern California.
Michael returns to Bear Insider as a staff writer after covering Cal basketball at the site in prior years. He also works with MLB and has written a book on baseball's unwritten rules currently in the market, titled The Baseball Codes, where he collaborated with Jason Turbow.
David has been with Bear Insider since 2009. A Cal alum (Class of 1967), he began his professional sports-writing career as an undergrad, working for The Hayward Daily Review, The Daily Californian, and San Francisco Examiner. In 1972, he joined The San Francisco Chronicle and remained there until 2006, covering the Raiders, 49ers, A's, Giants and Golden Bears. His work has appeared in The Washington Post, Newsweek, and Sports Illustrated. He and his wife Lesly live in Walnut Creek.
Nathan is a Midwestern-trained professional journalist that moved to Berkeley in 2014. He's been working for Bear Insider since February of 2019. A life-long college hoops and football fan, Nathan primarily covers Cal hoops for Bear Insider with a side of football. Besides Bear Insider, his work has been featured in Fortune, Forbes, Quartz, and Outside, among others.
