And he's spot on in his rant.

Posting on BI of all places and talking about lack of accountability is pretty funny. This site is full of people that have made excuses for both the school and coaching staffs for years and years.....91Cal said:

Also, lack of self-reflection about how s****y the local media's coverage of college supports has been as an overall contributor to both the lack of interest and the lack of accountability towards the various administrations. The mediocrity and failures have rarely if ever been called out by the local sportscasters.
How many exposs did they run on Larry's mismanagement and the presidents for letting him get away with it? How many stories from them on JK's mismanagement of the women's swimming program or Christ for renewing his contract?
Easy to point the finger when the house has fallen down around you.

Folks don't really understand the consequences of sunshine pumping (AKA sticking your head in the sand)
And this site is pretty much run by sunshine pumpers.

It would have been perfect for the Wall Street Journal and/or the NY Times or even Sports Illustrated. These days, The Athletic would have been well positioned to report on such matters, and maybe they will retroactively. But, in general, I don't think the media is at fault for what has happened to Cal and Stanford.
I know that Cal brought this upon themselves to the point where I actually believe that some administrators are privately celebrating this disaster.
I share Larry's sadness that, after over a century, the conference had to implode like a Titan submersible. In both cases, arrogance and poor management at the top, victimized innocent people at the bottom and both have sunk to invisibility.
I understand but I have heard that the commissioners were under pressure from the school presidents to produce a certain $ figure. And that wasn't forthcoming. I don't think Scott or George had the authority to over-ride the 12 presidents and/or act unilaterally.DiabloWags said:
Not sure why people keep calling out the female anchor, Karina Nova.
She didnt grow up in the U.S. and emigrated from Azerbaijan. Went to Kent State.
She is irrelevant.
What is relevant is the fact that Larry Scott turned down a deal just 4 years ago by ESPN to take over the Pac-12 Networks distribution and forge a long-term partnership on Tier 1 rights.
That scenario would have mandated that the LA schools stay put.
And here we are.
they run a 2 minute segment every Saturday for the local football teams. Give them a break. They are doing their part.91Cal said:

The woman who introduced Biel wouldn't shut up. Heaven forbid she sticks around. Yeah, I caught her "Cal State" just before the commercial. Yesterday, I caught Joel Klatt and I thought he gave an excellent presentation of the history of the breakup of the Pac12. It goes all the way back to formation of the league with SC and UCLA supposed to receive higher shares of the revenue. Cal was probably also a former. Instead, as they brought in schools the revenue was shared equally. This is the first instance of offending dear old SC. The rest you know.

I recall hearing years ago (hearsay yes but completely believable) that SC had always wanted to find a way to get out of having to travel to Pullman freaking Washington to play a football game, and now they have, so that's good for them. Of course now they'll have to go to New Brunswick freaking New Jersey occasionally, but for a much bigger slice of the pie, so they can live with that I suppose.
**** UCLA too!bearsandgiants said:kirklandblue said:Bear8 said:

One of the greatest experiences of my life was a road trip to Pullman in 1996. Of course, Barnes fumbled on the 2 yard line, and we proceeded to go 1-6 after that, but what matters here is, **** u$c.

Yeah, the "hostess" -- let's hope her main job is not in local sports, or even part of the Bay Area community -- introduces Justin Wilcox as "the Cal State coach", emblematic of all our problems. Otherwise, Larry Biel summed it up pretty well, including a pretty good sad history of the past 10-15 years.
I remember listening to that game on KGO. Oh, to have been there? Ouch.bearsandgiants said:kirklandblue said:Bear8 said:

I don't care where she's from. If she's doing a local show, she should know not to call us Cal State. Am I a little sensitive the past few days? Yeah, but I woulda said that any time.
