That sucks. One of my favorite players from the Snyder era. Loved watching him play.

Same here. You and I must have been at UC Berkeley around the same time.

This one hurts and hits way too close to home. Sean Dawkins was only 52 years old. Dawkins was the tall, athletic, graceful, and generally "quieter" receiver, qualities which were compounded by the fact that the other WR was Brian "The Mouth that Roared" Treggs. Treggs was of course small, slower, and obviously a much "chattier" receiver, and the two complemented each other perfectly. Those two were great together on those '90 and '91 back-to-back bowl teams, back in the days when Cal could punish other teams in both the run and the pass game.

I am really sorry to hear of his passing. Unfortunately a quick Google search confirms that he died yesterday, no cause of death provided. 52 is too young. RIP big # 86.

Well this is news I could have went without today. So sorry for the loss to his family. Sean and his patented leaps into the corner of the end zone for touchdowns. He might be one of the first Cal football players of my memory. I was a little kid watching those teams. Sean was such a great football talent. In fact I probably have Sean's Cal football card in a box somewhere in my room still I think..not sure on that. What terrible news. I was so excited when he got drafted into the NFL to the colts, again..one of the first Cal guys I remember getting drafted so it was special to me.

PS Pretty sure the clip at 2:40 was the '91 UW game. I attended that game and it sure brings back some very powerful memories. That amazing game, then the concerning smoke south of the stadium. "Oh, good it's out." Then the firestorm the next day. What a time to be in the East Bay.

Horrible, sad news. I was a freshman in 92 and he was the reason I became such a huge cal fan. He gave me his glove after the Stanford game in 92. Became a fan of the Colts because he was on the team. What a great player he was!

The number one thing I saw and truly admired competing against this stud was that if you want to earn respect you do it with your actions not your words.

Just a little story.
Back in the summer of 1991 a company I worked for had their company vehicles serviced at Sun Valley Ford in Concord (Now Future Ford). The owner of Sun Valley Ford was a Cal alumnus and please correct me if I am wrong but I thought a pretty big donor to the Cal Athletic Dept. During that summer, I was asked to drop off a commercial vehicle for service at the dealership. As I walked into the Service Dept, there stood Sean Dawkins working at the dealership making some extra money during the summer break. Had a great conversation with him. Seemed very humble and an all-around great young man.
A shock today to hear the news.
Gone way to early.
