Agreed. We knew he would be a project when he was hired but unfortunately he has not grown into the postion.Golden One said:southseasbear said:We would have beaten them if we had a better than average head coachcalgldnbear said:

We have a head coach who is well below average.

Will ucs fire coach while stuck getting through the closure on the 10?
Can you imagine how good UCLA would have been last year with this year's defense? I think a lot of donors don't trust Chip to get them to the next level. He kept a bad DC (R.I.P.) and now that he has a good DC he has to still develop a QB.Nasal Mucus Goldenbear said:
Are they still firing Chip?
His record in the last 3 years:
* 2021: 8-4 (6-3 in conference). 29-pt W @USC.
* 2022: 9-4 (6-3)
* 2023: 7-4 (4-4), w/ a good chance of finishing 9-4 (5-4) in a clearly rebuilding year. 18-pt W @USC.
Can you imagine firing (or not giving an extension) to a Cal HC with that recent record? Chipster must have offended several megadonors by allowing them each no more than 7.25 seconds of chitchat time with minimal eye-contact.

If they can get Smith they should do it, otherwise no.Nasal Mucus Goldenbear said:wc22 said:

He has developed several QBs in the past though and with all the young high-ranked talent already in their roster it's just a matter of 1-2 years before they have as complete a team as his oregon teams. He is a proven coach in rebuilding mode working in a recruiting hotbed. Seems crazy to dismiss him unless they have someone extra-extraordinary in all 3 phases + recruiting already lined up.

yucla is probably still a little too strong for us, but a dinged-up garbers with no capable replacement could at least keep it close for us.

That's unfortunate. I hope that he fully recovers.Rushinbear said:He got shook up again later in the game. this, after getting shook up last week.chazzed said:

the basis for my statement is that he was dinged in the last game and again last night. he didn't look in full health and that may affect his play against us. I'm not suggesting that we try to hurt him, but it's a contact sport and there's nothing wrong with contacting him.01Bear said:Rushinbear said:He got shook up again later in the game. this, after getting shook up last week.chazzed said:

I don't like the idea of any student athlete being injured in a game, let alone the brother of a Cal great (and I do consider Chase Garbers to be a recent Cal great) who sweat and bled for the Blue and Gold. I'd like to see Chase's little brother remain healthy but struggle (along with the rest of the baby bears) next week against Cal.
(To be clear, I'm not accusing you of wanting to see Ethan Garbers hurt.)

his being chase's brother is immaterial. it's not bean bag.
